Default Disney Movie Club - 3 Blus @ $1.99 each

I searched the forum before posting and didn't see this anywhere, so apologies if this has already been posted.

https://disneymovieclub.go.com/webap...7055416W2217W0

The 3 @ $1.99, and a fourth for $19.99, sounds good until you read the terms and conditions, where it mentions you have to purchase 5 Disney Blu-rays over the next 24 months at the full Movie Club price of $29.95.

So, I'm trying to figure out if this is worth it. I don't want to spend $150 on 5 movies, especially if those same 5 can eventually be had for $15-20 apiece elsewhere. If I get 3 @ $1.99 + 1 @ $19.95 + 5 @29.95, that would put me at about $176 for 9 movies. If I could get those same 9 films for $15-20 apiece elsewhere, that would be $135-$180, which means I can most likely get them for cheaper.

In the end it seems at best to be a wash and at worst it will be more expensive in the end.

Do a search for the other Disney thread, someone broke the pricing down and it turned out to be a lousy deal.

The Disney Movie Club offers I've seen didn't have that big a purchase obligation (they do vary from offer to offer), but you did leave out one thing on your offer: If you take the $19.99 offer now, it counts towards the 5 so you only have to buy 4 at $29.99. So the proper cost is $145.92 (plus S&H on the $29.99 titles, and possibly taxes) for 8 movies, or average $18.24 per title before S&H and taxes.

As a veteran of the music clubs before they folded, I can tell you what to watch out for:
(a) Watch out for the "featured title" mailings; if you don't respond "no", they ship automatically and you may be stuck with them. It appears the only way they notify you of these titles is by snail mail, which is not good (though you can refuse them thru the website).
(b) S&H charges can be excessive, though Disney's ($3.95 for first title + $1.49 for more titles in same order) aren't as bad as the music clubs (they charged ~$3 per item even on the same order).

You may also want to consider joining Disney's DVD club instead; IIRC you can pick BDs in the initial offer, then fulfill your purchase obligation with $19.99 DVDs instead. (I'm not sure if that will work, though.)

Finally, you may want to consider following the instructions for placing your first order by mail with a check. If you join online or by phone, they'll charge your credit card for all shipments; but if you join by mail, you'll get an invoice with each shipment. That makes it simpler if you forget to respond "no" to a mailing; you can always return the "featured title", or if you can catch it without opening the package, refuse it back to the post office at no extra charge. It also means you don't pay till you actually get the movie.

The only way i would do it is if it had the classics:

snow white
Pinocchio
sleeping beauty
etc

Those are generally more expensive so the that wouldnt be as bad..then again, those might sell for 29.99 which would defeat all gains anyway.

ill pass

The most I paid for any of those was $18.99 for Pinocchio at Amazon. I got Snow White its first week for next to nothing; I got Sleeping Beauty for $12.99 from a local used store. You can get better deals elsewhere, and the club won't keep Sleeping Beauty from returning to the vault at month's end (Snow White & Pinocchio will likely join her there next January).
