Not a single Warner Bros. title on either format has a main menu screen. They all start the film right away. I talk from experience. I've reviewed over 70 Blu-ray titles and all of the Warner titles I have only have the menu bar during playback.

Superman Returns has a main menu (movies backgrounds while options are available for selection). But the movie starts when you pop in the disc.
Warner doesn't seem to concentrate much on fancy menus. The 300 main menu is definately lacking. But this is normal for Warner. |

I love the lack of "menu" on 300. If you think about it, it could be like Disney where you get, "coming soon", 5+ trailers, an "illegal to copy" promo, and a talking skeleton. Although, I do like the skeleton myself; I just prefer to have the movie start right away. No frills for me, just a good flick with 2 tracks of lossless audio. Woo-Hoo!

They almost exclusivly do not do "Main Menus".That's not a main menu. That's the Special features stand alone menu. The only WHV BD main menu I have seen is The Prestige. Also no main menu on "Superman Returns" either. Same as above. |

I do like how it goes to the movie, but I like the menu in Hellboy. The menus are not like the ones on DVDs where they animate and make noise and then stop..... reset.. and start over. No, they are smooth and have an unbroken transition.
But it is nice to not see all those ads first. |

In response to the main menu vs. special features menu, I'm going to have to say it's the menu where you can navigate to get to different elements on the disc. In my book that makes it the "main menu". Even if it doesn't pop up at the start of the movie. In any event, not an issue worth discussing really, there is a menu no matter what you call it. BTW, I agree with others that it's nice to be able to just have the movie start right away. |

Well I was hoping that blu-ray was going to be like laserdisc but with a menu feature. The one thing I liked best about laserdisc was no movie trailers, no anti piracy crap, none of that stuff. I put in the movie and wham I was watching it.
My wish for all blu-ray titles would be at startup a main menu so I can choose sound options etc, and then press play. Some of the blu-ray movies especially Disney and Sony titles are very annoying in this respect. Paramount seems to be the best, they just have the one promo and then goes right to the menu. I don't like it when the movie just starts like on WB titles. Oh well, at least the picture looks awesome. |
