Default Help me look for an HDTV for PS3/Wii/Blu-ray use? My story at BB

The other day at best buy I bought a laptop on that on sale (eMachine laptop for $280). I decided to browse at these HDTVs while I was there. I ran across a quite in a few in one aisle. Although they were the least popular brands like dynex, insignma, etc. Are they even good? Well anyways, while they were playing Avatar (behind the scenes) there was a toshiba t.v. that got my attention and it looked AMAZING. Not sure if it was the t.v. itself or it was Avatar that made it looked amazing. Probably the t.v., because there was a side-by-side comparison and it looked better on Toshiba than the Dynex next to it. Anyways here's the info of the t.v. I fell in love with. Sorry for the blurriness:

So what do you guys think what kind of HDTV I should get? Let me give you more information. I am going to use it as a bedroom t.v. It is about 3 or 4 ft away from where I am going to see it (from bed to across to t.v. drawer). I would prefer a 26 inch or a 32 inch but I am not entirely sure. I also heard that 720p looks the same as 1080p if the person viewing it is close to the t.v. so give me opinions on that.

I know there should tons of sales going on soon because of the superbowl. So recommend me a t.v. that is good for PS3 gaming/Wii gaming/Blu-ray use and under the budget under $400? I prefer something name brand. My first HDTV!! yay

I always recommend no less than a 36" 1080p TV to really get your money's worth out of Blu-ray. If you get a 26" 720p TV, you'll find yourself regretting not going bigger within 3 months of purchasing the TV. I bought a 52" Sony LCD TV and it took me exactly 39 days to say, "I should have got the 60 inch."

Also, stick with Sony, Panasonic, or Samsung. My opinion though.

First of all....congrats on coming over to the dark side! You'll be giving up paychecks from now on...and loving every minute.

Don't look at the tv's at BB and pick one over another without knowing a few things about it first. For example, do you know if the settings between the 2 tv's were comparable? Also, I assume because it was a show about Avatar, there was lots of CG picture contained. In this case, they may have had Toshiba's motion flow (not sure of their term) turned on which adds to making computer generated graphics amazing, but in every day tv watching is not so important and as many on here will tell you, it makes things look fake. Personally, I try to purchase more brand names like you mentioned. Of coarse that's my personal preference and we all like different things. I would look towards Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba. But in those, some are better than others depending on the technology. You mention your bedroom being the place it will be set up. Is it a bright room? If it's quite bright, you may want to look at just LCD as they tend to be brighter, but their blacks aren't as deep as Plasma. Do a lot of looking at tv's side by side, but make sure their settings are similar so that you're seeing the same on each and start narrowing down your favorites.

Heh well, I am using an old school big boy 90's tv. I think it's about 26-32 inch, not really sure.

Plus, I think 36 inches is WAAAAAY too big for my room.

Looks like I got a lot to do then

Motion flow? Nah I don't the toshiba had that. The graphics just looked ****ing amazing. Not only did they show the CG pictures, but off the set scenes (interview about avatar) looked clear and vivid as well.

Wow not that bad

I guess I might consider a 32" over a 26". Depends on my parent's budget and how much I can tolerate on which size. I'm not even sure what is the current size of my tv
