Default I need help choosing a new receiver

Hey everyone,

I'm going to sell my Onkyo TX-SR806 tomorrow for $650. I'm looking to get either a Pioneer SC-27, Onkyo TX-NR5007, or the Denon AVR-4310CI. I work for a great electronics company so they are all great prices but I need to know which one would have the best sound. Thanks.

Listen to each of them on your own and make your own decision. But personally I like Denon the best of the 3 your considering.

The 806 isn't new enough? What's the reason for upgrading?

I have a Pioneer Elite so I'm somewhat biased. However, as callas01 said, listen to them all for yourself and get the one you think sounds best. I'm sure at this price point, they will all have all the features you're looking for.

I would strongly suggest the SC-27. I have last years version (SC-07) and I really don't regret getting this unit. When I was on the market for a new receiver I checked into Marantz, Denon and Yamaha and the Pioneer offered more for what I was paying. And since I had warm sounding speakers the Pioneer blended in great with them.... plus its a great tweak machine!

So yeah, I suggest Elite all the way... but like many mentioned, try each of them out.

I want to get a new receiver because my job has some great employee pricing. Anyways, I listened to the Denon and the Pioneer but ultimately went with the Onkyo TX-NR5007 because I liked the sound and the features (Pandora Radio, Reon Processing, 192kHz/32bit Burr-Brown DACs, and 4 power supplies). I also chose it because I get it for CHEAP. I am staying away from the Denon's because the two I tried out in December of 2008 kept on giving me problems with the sound cutting in and out. Thanks to everyone for responding though.

Edit:

Argh! I should have waited. Home Theater Magazine just published this review today...

Oh well... hopefully my Onkyo order doesn't go though.

Well I received my receiver yesterday (02/23/10) from FedEx. I set it up when I got home from work and boy is this unit an ABSOLUTE BEAST (50+ Lbs). I'm upgraded from the Onkyo TX-SR806.

Anyways it took me about 5-6 hours setting it up because after I ran the Audyssey auto calibration, I fine tuned everything afterwards. What messed everything up though was my internet radio not working. After doing about an hour of research I finally found the proper way to reset my receiver to factory settings and the internet radio finally worked! It's quite awesome and I've been enjoying for a couple hours tonight.

The ISF stuff is useless to me since I don't use it though. But overall sound quality going from the 806 is quite large. I'm hearing movies and music much more clear then before. I'm not sure if it's because the 192kHz/32-Bit Burr Browns, more wattage, or the Audyssey DSX setup. Anyways I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

I have basically the same speakers you do......the Elite will really push them nicely, with great depth and ease in your sound. I love my Pioneer Elite SC-05, and with their Class D ICE amps, you will have a hard time finding another receiver that can power your speakers more efficiently. The Elites are almost spot on with their bench testing and power ratings too, so you'll be getting close to 140 watts per channel when using all 7 speakers. MCACC has a 9 band EQ, so this really helps in getting the sound properly calibrated in your room. If you plan to use it as a pre/pro, it is a tweakers dream too. It really does have many, many options and the Burr Brown DACS means this excellent processing, which is necessary in a pre/pro. However, I do recommend going out and listen to them all. But I can say from experience with your speakers and an Elite, you will be very happy with this configuration.
