Hopefully this'll be the uncut version, i quess we'll know closer to release, if so then i'll pick this version up.

I have the Japanese dvd version still, so much better than the R rated cut.

Yes lets hope they don´t do a commando/die hard 4 on us and release a shorter/cut/censored blu-ray version when dvd have the longer cut. Been waiting for these and my only hope was the jp versions since a whole bloody affair never comes..

Did Geneon-Universal release these as the theatrical versions on DVD in Japan? I'm looking at Amazon.jp and can't find theatrical releases from them.....

Universal (before merging with Geneon in Japan) released only the Uncut versions (which are known as the Japanese cuts). There is no theatrical (US) version on Japanese DVD afaik. That is what makes this weirder as to why they are releasing the US versions.

That's what I was thinking too, which makes me wonder if that listing is a misprint. I think I'll preorder at Amazon.jp just in case.

So far, Amazon Japan, CDJapan, Kinokuniya JP and the Universal-Geneon product page all list a runtime for Kill Bill I as 111 mins. This is in line with the US runtime and not the 112-113 min runtime of the Japanese DVD release.

I can only guess either a) Geneon-Universal plan a double-dip for the Japanese cut, b) were to lazy to do an HD version of the Japanese cut and decided to use the US Buena Vista version, or c) Tarentino and TWBA debacle have something to do with it. I am leaning towards b).

So right now, it is looking like it will be the US theatrical cut being released in Japan, which basically leaves the TWBA release as the only hope of seeing the Japanese cut. Really sad...

Now at the very top of the Amazon product page, there is a "US" reference. It looks like these will just be the U.S. discs in better packaging.

I think Geneon-Universal is just being cheap. They are releasing Planet Terror/Death Proof in the same manner. The Geneon DVD was the best DVD version for Grindhouse (as it had Grindhouse, Planet Terror and Death Proof, and all the trailers) but the Blu-rays are just the individual movies without the trailers or the full Grindhouse cut.

I think these are just some cheap tie-ins to Inglourious Basterds. I think they may try a double-dip at some point in the future with the Japanese cuts of KB 1 and 2.

Has anyone tried to e-mail U-G about this? I really enjoy these films but I deliberately held off buying the US release in lieu of having the Japanese uncut versions. I can't imagine why U-G would be lazy enough to not release the domestic versions when every DVD version was uncut.

I guess I'll try it myself as well. Does anyone know if they respond to English language e-mails, or even understand them?

Probably lazy and cheap. From looking at the extras on these, it appears that they might be ports of the U.S. releases.

They added a reference to it being the U.S. release to the cover art. That confirms it.

The one saving grace is that I can't imagine that Japanese consumers will be pleased with this at all. I can't wait to read the badly translated reviews on Amazon.co.jp after release day.
