Default My Friend Has a Bose V20-How did this happen?

My one true friend that actually appreciates good audio and video replaced his Definitive setup for a Bose V20 system. He picked up a Panasonic 50PZ700U and I helped him with the whole setup. Initially he was going to wall mount the TV, but never did. He also has a PS3(took a lot of heavy pressure from me) and we have watched Dark Knight, and Casino Royale, Pineapple Express over there.

One thing I can't stand is that his center, left and right speakers are all inches away from eachother on the TV stand, like it's one big center channel. His TV looks WAY over saturated with colors and the Blacks are completely crushed. He also has wood floors.

My system I've slowly built over time, but absolutely crushes his. Now that DTS-MA, DOLBY TRU-HD, AND UNCOMPRESSED PCM are available, how can someone get a system for $2500+with HDMI passthrough? Granted it was a gift from his step dad. A self-confessed audiophile.

They also sit about 15 feet away from their 1080p TV.

Am I the only one bothered by this? I want to tell him about getting a subdude, bias lighting, speaker placement, and ISF calibration, but I feel the gap is too large.

No you are not the only one. I HATE BOSE and everything that company stands for. Should be used as a back up system like mine. But my back up system ran me six grand! Bose can suck it!

I'll try to put this into context. He's married. He still thinks saying "BOSE" means something. Back to he's married, small speakers look cute and unobtrussive. I don't think he cares to have a discerning ear anymore . He just turned 30, I mean we have all of the rest of our lives to be critical home theater buffs, but I think he's at the "sounds good, looks good" Keep it simple stupid stage in his life which is tragic to me.

Dang that sucks - when I hit 30 was when I got to the "fidelity matters" stage of my life. Up to that point I was too busy not having any money and hanging out at the bar.

Now I'm heading for 37, first kid on the way, married, just bought a house...and have a complete Paradigm 5.1 floorstanding system!

i don't know how Bose sales people can live with themselves, selling such an overpriced inferior system, and brainwashing people into believing it is the best you will ever hear. Maybe you should take your friend to a doctor and get him a brain scan, also check him for the hidden Bose tattoo they put on people when they are unconscious and playing you subliminal messages to get you to buy their product, did you really think the hidden room they take you into to audition the system is only to listen to the speakers well think again.

I have two..(well soon to be two) Bose lifestyle systems in my house and i like them. Easy to use, looks great, and the sound is good enough for me. Granted I only paid about 400$ total for both systems, so that helped my decision. I'm not defending Bose (had i not got the systems so cheap i wouldn't have them) but not everyone (like myself) wants big speakers that take up half the room, or needs a speaker that makes them poo themselves when they are on.

it's odd that he would replace what he had for another system..... but either way, he did it because HE wanted to..... I guess if he was spending YOUR money, then you'd have a bone of contention

Since he got it free essentially it's hard to criticize him about it, but regardless of whether or not you get it free or not, you should at least set them up correctly.

Well that is an unbeleivable deal.

Oh, and BTW, I forgot to mention I have another buddy that blew $1100 on the Bose Cinemate 2.1. I certainly don't begrudge any of my friends their decisions, but when I'm your friend and I offer to go and listen to systems or look at TV's and then help set them up, it's unnerving when they go out and make stupid decisions on their own. Because then, I'm forced to have to listen to them at their house. The same guy I last mentioned absolutely refused to by a PS3, even after I told him they would lose the format war, and they did, he refused to get a PS3. So in spite of everything he'll watch upscaled dvds, and XBL, and comcast on demand. This is on a Hitachi 55HDT51 55 inch plasma.

Waiting for the TV...but there are some of the SUB in the Paradigm Subwoofer thread.

Don't want to take pics of the room until it's completely finished.

Believe me...I am SOOOO looking forward to it! I've been holding off on a TV since 2006...trying to pay of debts. I thought I was going to add one last year...then the wife decided it was time to buy a house and start our family (1st one arrives in July) so I had to re-asses.

I'm waiting on the reviews of the VT25 to decide whether or not to wait until April 2011.

Prolly should add some audio pics though in the interim.

Make sure you post the links and reviews, as I'm also anxiously awaiting these. It's time for an upgrade.

You could always show him the links from other posts here, that show the ugly truth about Bose.
