Took at look at the new Panasonic DMP-BD85 today at my local Best Buy here in Seattle. Nice looking unit, price was $299.99 but I suspect it will drop soon enough in price. Took about 30 seconds for the film to load once it was put into the drive to get to the menu.

I agree, Panasonic makes outstanding Blu-ray units. I still have my BD30, only problem I have encountered is that it won't play the Blu-ray "Tropic Thunder", I have tried three of them through Netflix, none won't play properly. I have the latest firmware too. I probably will get a newer model in the Fall.

Haven't seen it in my area, NJ, nor on the website (unless I'm just missing the listing).

I noticed the load time on the player you mentioned. Disable or do not allow BD Live and I beat it loads at least twice as fast. |

I don't believe my current BD30 has a setting to disable the BD Live...does it? If so, I never use that, but isn't the BD Live something that would only take into effect if it was wired to the internet? Mine isn't, so not sure how BD Live would fit into this equation. Or were you referring to the new BD85 unit? It has built-in WIFI, something I don't feel I really need as I don't see the advantage of having it. If it is a firmware update, I don't mind downloading to a disc via my PC and then installing it onto the unit. I haven't read any reviews yet on the new 85 series other than the price at BB is $50 cheaper than it was when I originally posted this already.

Any BD-85 owners had any issues with the picture sticking, only for fractions of a second but enough to notice? Still an awesome player. It's new and my first player so am new to Blu-ray myself. Is quite possible it's in the set-up options so am tinkering with it.

I have had my Panny DMP-BDT300 player for just about 2½ months, and there have been three firmware updates for it in that space of time, and they have resolved known issues. Issues such as audio dropouts while bitstreaming DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks, as well as new movie playback compatiobility. They also improved the Viera Cast components, such as the Netflix application (which loads/navigates streaming movies MUCH faster than Sony's Netflix application). I have been very pleased with Panasonic's support of their BD players. |

I did borrow a 4th copy and it still wouldn't work. Also, the recently released "The Pacific" is freezing and skipping, anyone else experiencing that as well who owns a BD30? I can live with it as I am having it replaced with the 2011 model as soon as it is released.

Dont mean to thread jack, but I'm not allowed to start a new thread. Thus, here is my issue:
I just received my Panasonic BD-85k from Amazon today, and was hoping someone here could help me. I will not have my wifi network set up until the new year making the update over the players online interface not an option, and being a mac user the panasonic firmware updates are not to my knowledge burnable (properly anyway) on anything other than a PC. Thus I was wondering if anyone on here has their latest firmware update in disc form that they would be willing to send my way? Or simply willing to make me one and I could cover the dollar in shipping? Also, do the firmware updates include all previous updates or will I have to step by step do all the updates since my machine came off the line? Thanks for any feedback/help. Guess I got spoiled with Toshiba mailing me a disc copy of every firmware update for my HD-A30... -JN |

I have this player and I have a Panasonic HDTV Plasma, I love both og them and I too use a iMac. I have the wifi working so thats how I get the updates but there's a firm wear update for my TV and I d/l on my mac and used a sd card to install it, no problem. I dont think you'll have any problem d/l them and burning them onto a cd for your BD player updates. The mac dont care what file type it is when just d/l them and burning them, I did that for my old dvd player (thats a Panasonic also) |
