Ok - I have something that seems to be stumping everyone. Long story short, new computer, no issues. Everything is fresh and clean. Only a few weeks old. I noticed something when I plugged in my iPhone. Autoplay would pop up and look like this..
Notice the MS Office Document & Scanning. Twice, with no icon. Uninstalling this feature from MS Office does nothing. It's still there. Turning Autoplay on/off does not remove it. I can remove it from the registry under HANDLERS - however once I do that, autoplay will no longer pop up for the iPhone. Autoplay works for everything else, but not the iPhone. Put the entries back in, fixes it. I uninstalled iTunes, nothing. I removed iPhone from device manager, reinstalled, nothing. It got to the point where autoplay started NOT to pop up at all for iPhone. I had to do a system restore. All is fine now, except those two entries. If I remove ANY entry from the registry under handlers, autoplay stops working for the iphone. I have posts on windows 7 forums and apple forums. Nothing so far. The only thing left is to uninstall Office but that's a bit of work because I have to backup email and setup my rules again. I will do it if I need to but I am trying to avoid that. Anyone have any ideas? The registry section I am referring to is - HKLM-Software-MS-Windows-Current Version-Explorer-Autoplayhandlers-Handlers The two keys are identical and look like this.. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Handlers\WIA_ {5133AC0F-6018-409C-BD14-456A78EF595C}] "DefaultIcon"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Common Files\\Microsoft Shared\\MODI\\12.0\\MSPSCAN.EXE,1" "Action"="Microsoft Office Document Scanning" "InitCmdLine"="/WiaCmd;C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Common Files\\Microsoft Shared\\MODI\\12.0\\MSPSCAN.EXE;" "Provider"="Microsoft Office Document Scanning" "CLSID"="{A55803CC-4D53-404c-8557-FD63DBA95D24}" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Handlers\WIA_ {7F79E229-4B44-4A21-83C6-DFF1FFBB12FC}] "DefaultIcon"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Common Files\\Microsoft Shared\\MODI\\12.0\\MSPSCAN.EXE" "Action"="Microsoft Office Document Scanning" "InitCmdLine"="/WiaCmd;C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Common Files\\Microsoft Shared\\MODI\\12.0\\MSPSCAN.EXE;" "Provider"="Microsoft Office Document Scanning" "CLSID"="{A55803CC-4D53-404c-8557-FD63DBA95D24}" |

So you are wanting to remove those 2 icons from showing for the autoplay selection right?
Other than uninstalling and reinstalling office, I don't really see any other way around this. The only thing I would mention is that even if you were able to remove those 2 options from showing, they may just be replaced by 2 different programs your computers thinks you might want to use. Know what I mean? Good luck though! Thanks |

I am an IT professional that couldn't figure this out. WTF is going on. Lol.
So I do the next best thing I know how - if you can't fix it in a few hours - RELOAD (when applicable). Hehe. So, I am currently saving a few little items and then I am going to reload the machine back to factory. Install each item one by one to see what the hell happened. If it happens again, then I will be pissed. |

![]() I could have turned autoplay off, but that would have irked me even more. At least, not it's working like it should. I am sure it had something to do with Office. MS is notorious for fouling crap up. |
