Default The Dark Crystal

I see Sony is releasing The Dark Crystal 25th Anniversary Edition. Wonder why it wasn't scheduled for Blu-Ray release? I'd love to pick this one up on Blu-Ray....

It's been a really long time since I've seen this one. One of Henson's best movies. It really shows his imagination and creativity.

I've held off double-dipping the new Anniversary edition (anything new on it from the '99 version?), if only for the reason that Sony keeps the Labyrinth/Crystal 1-2 punch as a reserve card year after year whenever they need "family" titles to bring out--
(And, that these new editions look exactly like the usual nominally-expanded re-issues that come out just before/when a studio is readying its hi-def edition...)

But given that Sony is already low on non-Disney family titles for Blu, intuition guesses that they're going to make some strategic announcement of a more diverse-genre catalog next year sometime around early '08 (Ie., that now that everyone's "accepted" Blu, they don't have to keep putting gamer-action titles out for PS3 players, and can start offering "regular" movies for mainstream video customers to buy the hardware, and compete with Disney and Warner's more diverse sales)--
And who's in the betting pool for which titles are first out of the gate to represent the Family back-catalog?

We shall see. Patience is a *****. Regardless of anything we think and feel the release of titles is beyond our control. Enjoy a ride on a bicycle, or whatever fills the time.

They're holding off for a bigger audience and to hopefully Cross-promote with Dark Crystal 2

Don't forget that Henson owns Dark Crystal, and Sony is merely a distributor for it. I can't say for sure but likely Sony would pass on the expense to them, that they can't be sure on an immediate return for that they'd need.

That'll be a long wait, as latest news is that Genny's movie has run out of investments, and they're stuck in limbo until they can raise the cash to finish it--
And whether they'll get it is looking shakier all the time.

(I'm trying not to let my own feelings for Lisa "Graverobbing, carpetbagging, uncreative franchise-pimping Disney puppet, after Brian got the rest of the company that Disney didn't" Henson get in the way, but that's what I've heard...
And the Fraggle Rock movie don't sound too promising, neither.)

But they're the exclusive distributor, as the deal was signed long before things got confusing. It's theirs to play with.

(And when I said "Guess which Sony family titles will be first", was thinking more along the lines of "Take a big fat guess... ")

Gelfling I mean you no harm. See I am friend.
I would love this movie to be on bluray too. But does the source video allow the studio to provide us with the picture clarity we crave? High definition video is newer than demand for fan favorites. If the studios are willing to provide we, as the home audience will wait, and hope.
