Post Comedy Discussion based on World's Greatest Dad.

Hey guys,

Long time no see.

Anyways, I caught this great movie two days ago and ended up enjoying it so much that I re watched it a couple of times with family and friends. I highly recommend the film for you guys to check out.

Now this thread is more about Comedy. I thought the film fits perfectly into the Comedy Category BUT my brothers and some friends argued that while at some parts the movie is funny it instead falls under Crude Comedy and others said no it is a straight up Black Comedy.

Now I will assume that everyone knows this:

Comedy = Tragedy. (at some point of time).

Today we argue that Comedy is = Funny. (which is in general a true statement).

But when is it okay to say that the film is either:
  1. Comedy (Tragic).
  2. Black Comedy. (No definition as of yet)
  3. Crude Comedy (No definition as of yet)
  4. Dark Comedy (No definition but could it be a black comedy as well)?

For those who have seen the film please use spoiler tags.

What do you guys think?

Enjoy the discussion.

First thirty or so minutes were great. The rest of the movie lacked zazz.

Again this isn't a discussion about the movie itself. But about the definition of comedy.

Comedy (Tragic) - I've always heard that comedy is tragedy plus timing.
Black Comedy - I think like morbid humor falls under this.
Crude Comedy - Poopoo jokes or making fun of the crippled I am in for either.

Well, if it's not a fanboy thread seeking validation, then SAY it's about the Nature of Comedy, The Universe & Everything--Don't link it to a Bobcat Goldthwait movie that none of us saw in theaters, and are likely to skip over the thread accordingly.
Or at least, if you're looking for something more generically academic, give two or three more illustrative examples that we're likely to have heard of in the last twenty years.
