Lightbulb History PROOF BLU-RAY WILL WIN!!

Here's my take on the 2 format war, History always's show's to repeat & come full circle! I'm 28 so I was a teenager/young adult during the VHS to DVD-Divx war....Now I didn't pay close attention back then cause girls & parties were taking up all my thoughts. But I was aware of them both no from an outsider stand point back then I still knew alot about DVD, seen it in stores though it was a pretty cool technology, My friends & peers knew of it, & we all knew of Divx but not too much about it as Teens not paying too close of attention it was always DVD for the future never even crossed our minds that the 2 were both trying to become the future, Divx was never in our conversations, DVD rarely was too but at least sometimes was & we all thought it was pretty cool.....Also I remember going to blockbuster & seeing on the wall the VHS movies for rent with a few DVD's of the movie in the middle about 6-9 copies,............Now fastfoward to now 2 formats trying to become the future, My last year in college I worked for a Theater & got free movies & %50 off concession so I today still kept the job by working 1 night a week for 5hrs. small price for Free movies!! but anyways I work with majority of Teens-High School/College Kids....& they are just the way my generation was with DVD only about Blu-ray...when they talk about movies(which working in a theater is quite often) they mention Blu-Ray they NEVER mention HD-DVD, they don't know that much about either but they think Blu-Ray is cool HD-DVD is out there but to them without any thought Blu-Ray is the future format, Also I was in my local blockbuster the other day & walking around I noticed on the wall the DVD movies for rent had a few Blu-Ray's of the movie in the about 6-9 copies, & I didn't personaly know this back then cause to me back then it was no big deal but I read on here that Paramount went & supported Divx & Now they went to HD-DVD........I know all this may not seem like much but it seem's like history always repeats it self & like my generation was the future when DVD's came out, the teen's are the future now when Blu-ray is new....(even though they are not the 1's spending the $ now, a teenager's influence on thier Father is a much bigger influence then wether or not Transformers is available) (I got my father to buy Directv in it's first year at $700 & DVD in it's early life when our player costed over $500)....Also Fox is a much bigger deal to Blu-ray then paramount is to HD-DVD cause Newscorp/Fox air American Idol the #1 rated TV show every year & what movies do you think are going to be advertised?..exactly Fox movies!! which are only available on Blu-Ray!!

Whoa. You went to College and still work at a movie theater? Did you learn what paragraphs were?

There certainly is a cool factor about Blu-ray that I am not quite sure what it is. Maybe it is just the name and blue color. Before I bought my PS3 and investigated both sides I always thought Blu-ray was more cool .. for no real reason. Lol.

HD DVD is a boring name and their colors are very business and ugly imo as well. So silly but these things make a difference!

I'm out of breath from reading that!

I think it is a valid point though - one should not underestimate the influence and buying power of teens.

Andy Kaufman worked as a bus boy in a resteraunt while he was famous.

And I never thought of the American Idol angle. That is a massive audience ranging in ages and proffessions accross the board. And Fox is really good at hype and sensationalism.

If you noticed I started working there while in college & now after I decided to work 1 night a week for just 5hrs., to be able to get employee benifits!! Free Movies %50 off Concession's....5hrs. of my time out of an entire week is well worth it! Plus I get to see movies 1-2 days before thier public release date.

If Disney releases High School Musical on Blu Ray and every preteen girl in the US buys it, the war would be over! (so I've heard) :-)

It's true. Teens may not have much in the way of disposable incomes, but HOUSEHOLDS with teens make up the bulk of consumer spending in America.

If you've ever read Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell you'll see that small, seemingly insignificant things can result in major commercial success when "cool, young people" are attracted to them. The very name "Blu-ray" sounds so much cooler to a teen than "HD DVD", which is very bland and boring.

And when you look at it that way, stuff makes sense. Who knows more about appealing to teens through branding? Microsoft and Toshiba, with their generic, cardboard products? Or companies like Disney, Apple, and Sony (who has "marketing to teens" down to an art form thanks to Playstation)?

It's just like that commercial where the dad buys stock in a clothing manufacturer because his teenage daughter tells him all the kids at school want their jeans.
