Looks nice, I like the Samsung players really well. What can it do with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA? Does anybody know?

Cool

In Canada, Sears releases their Christmas Wishbook catalog every year about this time. Perusing thru the electronics I noticed 2 blu-ray players, 0 hd-dvd. One was the Sony 300 model, the other the new Samsung BDP1400 -- the book states its availability OCT 1.

Ah, you lucky Canadians!!!!!
I live in the US, and we haven't had Sears WishBook catalogs for years!!
I remember they were really fun to look through during the holidays.
I can't wait to move into Canada!!!! It's gonna be 4 years max, maybe only 2 years if I can play my cards right and catch a few lucky breaks from CIC in the process.

Jodi
Canadian gonnabee

P.S. speaking of Sears, our Sears ad today (26 August) FINALLY has the Sony BDP-S300 advertised for $499 USD. I work at a Sears, and we're finally gonna get that little player. But I've had my S-300 since late-June.

P.S.S. BD players 2, HD-DUD players 0. Gotta love that!!

Cool.

Of course, the practical reason the retailers are choosing to support Blu-ray: They can make signficantly more money selling them. The margins are better.

People seem to expect the retailers to be in it for the cause. But, really they are mostly driven by good business sense. Can we make money on the players? Can we afford space on the shelves for the discs (Blockbuster).

$500? That's $150 too much. Does it even support 1.1?

No, and chances are that it won't.

Chris
I've seen nothing more revealing than the original press release which indicates the players support TrueHD and lossless DTS HD, which may or may not mean MA. Anything revealed via AVS in the past couple of weeks is unknown to me, since I'm avoiding the place so long as the inmates run amok in the asylum.
