Default New Receiver wont power on please help!!!

Hi guys, can you help me out with this? Last night I helped my brother hook up his new receiver. (Onkyo 674) Everything was working perfectly, we watched and played HDTV and the pS3 for a few hours. This morning he goes to turn the receiver on, and it doesnt power up. He says it makes a clicking sound as if its going to power up but doesnt. He is getting power to his other components (tv, ps3) but not the receiver. Does anyone have an idea what can be causing this? Please if anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

I had a similar problem actually when I first moved into this house I am currently living in....

Are you using a powerstrip of some sort?

When I first transferred my stuff into the house, and plugged everything into the power strip, everything worked except my reciever. I would turn it on and it would light up for a second like it was going to work, the relays would click on, and then the thing would just shut off.

For a quick fix, I moved the plug into a different slot and didn't use that particular three prong with anything else. I then went a bought a new power strip.

also check to see that all speaker wire connections are good and that the wires arent touching each other. if 2 wires are touching the reciever might detect it (short circut) and it might not allow the unit to power up.

Thank you, I will relay the message and we will try these out. Hopefully it works. I would think so, onkyo makes very good products.

+1 on the speaker wires. I've had this happen a couple times. Damn dog or cat gets behind a speaker and pulls a strand out and my receiver starts trippin out.
