Unhappy What is up with Despicable Me?

I have been waiting for it to load for over 20 minutes. MY KIDS ARE GETTING READY TO BURN ME AT THE STAKE!

But thanks universal, for the holiday message, I am pretty sure that is new today and is what is causing the delay.

It's either a bad disc or your firmware isn't up to date.

Disable the internet connectivity on your player, and try again.

Or tell them it's a Christmas present, so it won't work until tomorrow

shouldn't he just disconnect BD-Live?
i don't know if Despicable Me has BD-Live, but for Zack and Miri Make A Porno, to get it to play you have to disconnect BD-Live and i accidentally disconnected the internet entirely and it caused problems keeping me logged in on my ps3 ever since then until i eventually had to reformat my entire ps3 and lost all my data and i don't want the same thing to happen to the OP.

nothing worse than losing everything and waiting 6 hours for it to reformat

First of all...are you using the samsung 3600 or the ps3? 2nd....have you updated the firmware on all of them? The ps3 should play it with no issues...the 3600 however is a different matter. The first 3 generations of samsung bdps weren't worthwhile at all. Not sure how they are now but I won't be buying another samsung bdp because of the earlier ones.

sometimes you can speed up loading by either turning off the internet connection/bd live feature before inserting the disc
and/or inserting an sd memory card in the slot if your player has a place for one.

Thanks. In fact I tried all that you suggested, with nothing to show for it. It just needed to be left alone before it began, and then it started up.

As for a cChristmas present, that I dea went out the window when they have watched it 10 times since last week.

Thanks to all, and happy holidays.

The long load times of some Blu-rays DRIVE ME CRAZY! Absolutely ridiculous that it can take so long to load a movie. And then there are frequently the forced trailers. idiots!

It's enough to make a guy want to rip every Blu-ray to a hard drive, pull out just the movie file, and play it with a file player utility.

The newer players are faster so if you have an old one maybe its time for a new one.

BTW ~ Discussion of ripping Blu-rays is a NO_NO

this all depends on your bluray player, some have 2gb of internal ram which make the load time almost non existant, and some older ones barley have 256mb or even none at all which make the load time VERYYYY long.
I just picked up ANOTHER new bluray player, this was an LG compared to my previous samsung BDP. And on Dispicable Me the load time is only about 2-3 seconds.

Also, the Firmware update is important. some updates are meant for 1 particular movie, which can make that one movie load quicker, and even allow it to be played, since blu-ray discs always have new technology on them, these updates are sometime required to even watch the disc at all.

BD-Live wouldnt make that big of a difference. Nothing that would make a movie take 2 minutes + to load. Did you check your firmware update? and if you downloading a new Firmware, make sure you check again after that, and keep checking until it tells you your firmware is up to date.

If that doesnt work unplug the bluray player for a minute, so it can clear the ram and then plug it back in.

And last check to make sure the disc is clear of oil/fingerprints.

If all this fails then take the disc back.

HINT* upgrading to a new stand alone bluray player once every few years is important. As new features come out, More internal RAM and Newer technology processors will allow for better movie expeirences.
Much different than laserdisc or dvd.

Hope this helped...

It's a Universal title...

You should automatically expect up to 10 minutes of delay right when spinning the movie. They do these terrible ads and such in order to remove the viewer from the film, so that when they're done the person doesn't want to watch the film they paid a hefty penny for. It's called "counterproductive" or "incredibly annoying marketing". Universal prides itself on being the worst about it.

Default No Digital Copy???

Am I just missing something or did anyone else not get a Digital Copy of Despicable Me in their purchase from Best Buy that is supposed to include a Digital Copy. It does not appear to be on any of the 3 discs. Not a big deal but I put in both DVDs and there is no prompt for transferring. Hmmm...may have to take back to Best Buy.

Default Found it...

After looking on Best Buy site, saw another review that it is on the extra disc, just does not load each time to redeem code. Got it done though. Just misleading packaging.

My BD Despicable Me would not recognize in my PS3 (wouldn't even show up in the video list). Amazon is replacing the disc. I've read elsewhere that there was a bad batch of discs. Hopefully the replacement will be fine. I'll know later today.

I noticed you had a Samsung Blu-Ray player. I used to have the BD-C6900 and it literally took minutes to load sometimes. It seemed like a firmware problem.

I exchanged it for a Sony BDP-S570 and haven't had problems since (plus the Sony player has an iPhone Remote app that works perfectly!).

Got my replacement from Amazon and everything is hunky dory. Disc recognized right away and then it began downloading the content... that part took a while but I knew right away that this disc was going to work.
