Default DTS Master Audio on PS3?

I just wanted to know if DTS Master Audio decoding can be added to the PS3 through a software update or does it have to do with the hardware of the PS3?

Pretty sure it's just a rumor. But some DTS reps apparently said that it's possible and that it should be upgraded no later than the end of quarter 1 of next year. But in the past they also said it'd be 6 months... That was something like 8 months ago. Then also they said by the end of this year...

It would be amazing if the PS3 gets the functionality. Sony's just announced S2000ES doesn't do DTS-HD HR or DTS-HD MA. The site specs appear to indicate that it doesn't do DTS-HD MA bitstream out either.

dts®-HD Decoding-2

* Master Audio: No; HDMI™ bitstream out: No

Kind of a stunner for $1299 list.

From what I remember, Paidgeek at one point said that SCE was looking into it, but there was no official word yet.

The PS3 definitely has a ton of processing power, do it should be doable, Sony also has to get dual stream PIP working though, which is going to take a lot of processing power as well -- especially with AVC video.

Which is why I'm getting the Pioneer Elite BDP-95FD.
Via bitstream, it does DTS-HD MA and DTS-HD HR.
And at only $1,000, the Elite would be a steal!!!

I'm not sure what Sony is thinking here. No Ethernet on the Sony either.

Yeah I'm leaning toward the Pioneer also but waiting until 1.1 support and a live demo with some of my own discs before i drop the cash. I'm partial to standalones because of the ease of integration into my HT.

Let me see if i got this straight, are guys are saying DTS would be better than Uncompress PCM at 7.1 192khz 24bit ?

that no one knows if it would be good as PCM yet with the capability of going 11.2 PCM 192khz 24bit of uncompressed audio ?

And besides what Studio Company is putting DTS-MA on their releases ?

DTS-HD MA is a lossless variable rate encoder; so once decoded, it should be bit-for-bit identical to the uncompressed PCM and take up less space.

Fox is using DTS-HD MA on their BD releases.

DTS-HD and DTS-MA are 2 different Codecs and what garantees you it will take less space since the Bandwith takes about 30Mbps and perhaps more, aint were talking to HD-Dud guys that Blu has more space (about 20gb more) than their's, Should it been more than enough to put PCM over there ??

Don't forget about all the LIONSGATE movies. "The Condemned" is supposed to be in 7.1 DTS-HD MA also. Worth the purchase just for that. That's also a pick-up for me on the 18th. Woo-Hoo!

Actually the bit rate for DTS-HD HRA on Blu-ray is up to 6Mbps (constant bit rate) and for DTS-HD MA on Blu-ray is up to 24.5Mbps (super high variable bit rate).

What studio has announced 8 channel 24/192 PCM?

Umm, HA and MA are variants of DTS-HD. Why the hell would someone compress if it takes the same or more space? 8*24*192K*60*2 = over 4.4 GiB for just the English track on a 120 minute film.

well, check this out for facts:

DTS-HD MA up to: 24.5Mbps up to 24bit 96khz limited to 7.1 Channels
Dolby TrueHD up to: 18Mbps up to 24bit 96khz, support more than 8 channels *everyone is limiting to just 8*
(seems Dolby has better technology) both uncompressed bit for bit Identical

Uncompressed PCM: 6.144 Mbps (per channel), up to 24bit 192khz and it has (as far as i know) 11.2 Channels (yamaha has one model) total Mbps by 8 Channels (49.152) can go farther depending on the channels

Right now everyone has 5.1 (some can 7.1 with technologies) but no Tru True DTS-HD MA with 96khz (all at 48khz)
meanwhile Dolby has the Dave Mathews at 96khz
Uncompressed seems better at 192khz ? Dont you think ?
