Hong Kong HANNIBAL (2001 - d. Ridley Scott)

After reading about the U.S.-available version (MPEG-2, no extras), I ordered the HK version. While the U.S. version is lacking extras, the HK release is excellent. The extras are not HD.

Hello! I have a couple of things for you, first to show all possible releases and not just those from the country you registered with, follow this handy guide, make sure all country boxes are ticked on your site preferences page to show everything.

Secondly it looks like the Hong Kong release hasn't been added to the database yet, if you feel up to it you can use the "Suggest a new movie" function to suggest that it gets added to the database (if the data is good it should get approved).

Thirdly, and I'm sorry to tell you this, it looks like the Hong Kong BD of Hannibal is the same as the Universal disc relased in (amongst other countries) the UK for a much cheaper price. The specs listed here suggest a disc that is very similar if not identical to yours in terms of the encode and reviews of the UK disc on this site (blu-ray.com) mention it having more special features than the US release.

Hope this all helps!

I have added up the HK version here:

Feel free to update the specs, but please adjust your settings first as knifethrower has suggested Here:

Universal, Sony, Warner and Paramount tend (I say tend because I can't account for everything) to put NTSC extras on their discs regardless of country of release because it saves them the trouble of making different discs (modern PAL sets all support NTSC anyway) for various regions. This is generally how it works for discs they produced themselves for multiple markets and not discs they either licensed from other companies for distribution (such as Universal does with Studio Canal discs for some countries) or discs produced only for one specific country (such as Sony's releases for Spain).

Who knows. But the stretched picture of the UK/HK release ruined it for me.

MGM/Fox released the US disc, Universal seems to have the international rights.

Picked up the US release of Hannibal on blu-ray yesterday. Just put it in. Watching and working at same time so can't give a fair review at this time. The opening sequence with Barney and Mason doesn't look so well. Too bad this didn't get better treatment. Hannibal in my opinion is the best in the Hannibal series. I prefer Julianne Moore as Clarice Straling over Jodie Foster. Corn pone country p***y is better than trailer trash LOL! This movie can stand on its own. Gary Oldman was great! Would I?, Wow! LOL!
