Default five movies you want to see in HD

im sure this has been brought up a million times, but i'm extraordinarily bored at work. what five movies (trilogies and sequels count as one) are a must have in hd, regardless of studio? and if you care, what are your five favorite movies (again, trilogies and sequels count as one).

hd must haves:
matrix
lord of the rings
jurassic park
king kong
gladiator

five fav movies:
matrix
lord of the rings
the usual suspects
fight club
gladiator

1. Star Wars (No, not "Episode IV, A New Hope")
2. The Empire Strikes Back
3. Star Trek: The Motion Picture
4. Superman: The Movie (The long version)
5. Return of the Jedi

Many more I'd like, difficult to cut it down to 5.

Default Tough call

I cannot decide on a "top five". The list is just too long.

What hopefully will show up on my collection of Blu-ray Disk movies and all at 1080p/24 or better will be

The Lord of the Rings trilogy (extended length versions)
Gone With The Wind (one of the original epics and still one of the best)
Firefox (great flight scenes which lost *everything* going to the small screen and "pan & scan" versions)
Lawrence of Arabia (another of the great epics of all time)
Matrix trilogy
Independence Day
The Godfather trilogy
2001, A Space Odessy (a true SciFi classic)
2010 (not as good as 2001, but can't have one without the other)
and maybe the Star Trek series.

Then I expect I'll have to replace them all again in the 2020-2030 time frame when the next generation of AV stuff comes out!

HD Must Haves...

1) Matrix Trilogy
2) Lord of the Rings Trilogy
3) Mission Impossible Trilogy
4) Top Gun
5) All Pixar Releases (Toy Story, Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars)

Five Favorite Movies...

1) The Matrix
2) Top Gun (Talk to me Goose!)
3) Austin Powers
4) Good Will Hunting (Memorable Quote: Why shouldn't I work for the N.S.A.? That's a tough one, but I'll give it a shot. Say I'm working at N.S.A. Somebody puts a code on my desk, something nobody else can break. So I take a shot at it and maybe I break it. And I'm real happy with myself, 'cause I did my job well. But maybe that code was the location of some rebel army in North Africa or the Middle East. Once they have that location, they bomb the village where the rebels were hiding and fifteen hundred people I never had a problem with get killed. Now the politicians are sayin', "Send in the marines to secure the area" 'cause they don't give a shit. It won't be their kid over there, gettin' shot. Just like it wasn't them when their number was called, 'cause they were pullin' a tour in the National Guard. It'll be some guy from Southie takin' shrapnel in the ass. And he comes home to find that the plant he used to work at got exported to the country he just got back from. And the guy who put the shrapnel in his ass got his old job, 'cause he'll work for fifteen cents a day and no bathroom breaks. Meanwhile my buddy from Southie realizes the only reason he was over there was so we could install a government that would sell us oil at a good price. And of course the oil companies used the skirmish to scare up oil prices so they could turn a quick buck. A cute little ancillary benefit for them but it ain't helping my buddy at two-fifty a gallon. And naturally they're takin' their sweet time bringin' the oil back, and maybe even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic skipper who likes to drink martinis and play slalom with the icebergs, and it ain't too long 'til he hits one, spills the oil and kills all the sea life in the North Atlantic. So my buddy's out of work and he can't afford to drive, so he's got to walk to the job interviews, which sucks 'cause the shrapnel in his ass is givin' him chronic hemorrhoids. And meanwhile he's starvin' 'cause every time he tries to get a bite to eat the only blue plate special they're servin' is North Atlantic scrod with Quaker State. So what do I think? I'm holdin' out for somethin' better. Why not just shoot my buddy, take his job and give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? I could be elected president. )
5) Braveheart / A Fish Called Wanda (Couldn't decide!)

what i always find so fun about these sometimes is how different favorite moveis are from the must haves. while an HD treatment of two of my favs (fight club and usual suspects) would be tremendous, they aren't the type of movies that get your blood pumping. on the other hand, blade runner, fifth element, 2010, indiana jones (how did i forget thee?), and the like would look tremendous in HD.

some other must haves i was thinking about:
ET
spiderman 1 & 2 (again, how did i forget!)
harry potter (not my first choice, but should look and sound fantastic)
incredibles (see comment above)
batman (only michael keaton and christian bale versions)
back to the future
top gun
saving private ryan

i have a few more in mind, but dont want to bore everyone

Holy crap, I totaly forgot about Spiderman! Batman Begins ought to be awesome as well. I think the Batman with George Clooney might go down in history as one of the worst movies ever, possibly behind Possession with Gwyneth Paltrow--saw it on an Airplane...wanted to crash it sucked so bad. JK.

Back to the Future, absolutely,...Saving Private Ryan, great movie, tough to watch, might be even tougher in HD.

How bout all Lethal Weapons? Oh and lets not forget Bourne Identity and Bourne Identity 2, those ought to be sweet as well. Good call on Indiana Jones series there Murch.

there are a ton of great quotes.

of course my favorite might be from boondock saints:

Paul Smecker: [after Smecker gets a phone call in bed with his gay lover and slaps him]
Paul Smecker: What are you doing?
Hojo: I just wanted to cuddle.
Paul Smecker: Cuddle? What a fag.

and yes, saving private ryan was hard to watch and would be harder in HD. however, as a demonstration of what br can really do... wow

Actually, if we're talking favorite movie quotes of all time, I think most of them come from As Good as it Gets

Good ol Jack Nicholson...

Melvin Udall: Never, never, interrupt me, okay? Not if there's a fire, not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home and one week later there's a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you're going to faint. Even then, don't come knocking. Or, if it's election night, and you're excited and you wanna celebrate because some fudgepacker that you date has been elected the first queer president of the United States and he's going to have you down to Camp David, and you want someone to share the moment with. Even then, don't knock. Not on this door. Not for ANY reason. Do you get me, sweetheart?

Melvin Udall: Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Melvin Udall: People who talk in metaphors oughta shampoo my crotch.

Receptionist: How do you write women so well?
Melvin Udall: I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.

Frank Sachs: Can you drive him?
Melvin Udall: Think white, and get serious!

Melvin Udall: As long as you keep your work zipped up around me, I don't give a rat-crap what or where you shove your show. Are we done being neighbors for now?

Of course there's others from Good Will Hunting, Dumb and Dumber, Something About Mary, Austin Powers, etc., but man there are so many in As Good as it Gets.

Bad news for all of us. I bet the studios will roll out the movies that crashed and burned - as we will buy them, as there is nothing else, once they have many of them out they will start with the good stuff / or they will release some of their good movies, that will be limited in some way (most probably audio) then in 12 months time re-release it. I'm thinking more and more of waiting another 8 - 12 months.
