I think it's only for DVD and they're obviously trying to milk cash out of the Battlestar Galactica franchise. Nothing to do with HD DVD or anything if you ask me.

airwolf with borgnine and jan michel vincent rocked. airwolf with vandyke(did someone say nepotism)and that other guy sucked big time. I watched that last season of galactica with my head in my hands, even starbuck had his pants pulled down and his ass tickled.

Don't forget, Boomer went from being a strong secondary character to basically a prop in this series. I actually thought this couldn't be as bad as I remembered, so I watched it on Sci-Fi. I actually cried.

G80 does make children weep doesn't it, especially "The Super Scouts"

What this is is some idiot exec that doesn't know that this show is exactly what the Battlestar Blasphemy fans claim the original is, and the real Galactica fans revile all but the last episode with Starbuck. He just saw the name and said "yay tie-in"

The production of G80 is a long and tortured story, Glen Larson told it to me at a convention

Here's the short version

*Ring*
"hello"
"Hey Glen, it's ABC....we really screwed up cancelling one of our number one shows thinking we could do better, and setting you up for a blasphemous abomination 25 years down the road when some jerkoff who doesn't like it steals your proper nouns and does his own thing. Anyhoo, we want you to do a "Galactica finds earth TV movie"
"Sounds good, when do you need it?"
"February sweeps" (about a year)
"Sure no problem"

month or so later

*ring*
"Hey Glen? ABC here...we decided to take it to series again"
"That's great!"
"same timeframe and all"
"good"

couple weeks after that:

*ring*
"Hey Glen, ABC here, we need the show in 6 weeks, oh and it has to be for the kids cause we're puttin it in the 7PM death slot, oh and it has to have motorcycles like CHiPS cause everyone likes CHiPS right?"
*headplant*

*ring*
"Hello Kent McCord? You know how we had you under contract for the second season of Galactica?"
"yeah"
"Well, welcome to loopholeville- population: you"

Based on how well his acting career has gone, I think he was happy for the work.
