Default Refrences to the original in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes

I enjoyed Rise of the Planet of the Apes -- no classic, but a fun prequel. I was struck though by how many references there were in it to the original Planet of the Apes and it's sequels. These are the one that I caught -- any others?

NOTE: Aerodude suggested I add spoiler tags (thank you!) but there is only one plot point revealed in the 13 references listed and it has a separate spoiler when you open the list. Nothing else about the story is revealed below.

[Show spoiler]
  • The title font is identical to the original film
  • The character named Dodge Landon -- the names of the other 2 astronauts in the original
  • "Get your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape!"
  • "It's a madhouse! A madhouse!"
  • Charlton Heston on TV
  • The use of the high pressure hoses on the caged apes
  • The orangutan named Maurice -- Maurice Evans play Dr Zaius, an orangutan
  • This is subtle, but there are news reports about a manned space shot, then a newspaper headline about the ship being lost. I took that to be Taylor's ship from the original film, lost in space to land on the PotA
  • The main chimp is named Caesar, as in the 4th and 5th films
  • [Show spoiler]In the sequels, ape lore has it that the first word spoken by an ape is "No!", as in the new film
  • Caesar is shown briefly playing with a Statue of Liberty puzzle toy
  • An ape is called Cornelia -- very close to the original Cornelius
  • Caesar is called Bright Eyes, like Heston in the original film

Any others?

BTW, a fun in-joke I caught that has nothing to do with the old films: they're showing Francis, The Talking Mule on a TV screen -- another old
[Show spoiler]"talking animal" film!

I think I had a few others, but now I can't remember them all I'll post more if I think of them.

There's already a thread for the movie, plus, you Should use SPOILER TAGS (like I did above) for everything you posted. Not Everyone has seen the movie.

Thank you sir -- tags are added! The other Apes thread isn't the same as this one -- this one is just for listing references to the old film.

Bright Eyes is the name of Caesar's mother.

[Show spoiler]Tom Felton's delivery of the line "Get your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape!" was terrible.

I agree.

I would've liked a few quick nods to the original, but I noticed every one of those the OP mentioned during the film (other than the newspaper headline), and I didn't like most of them. They squandered the old lines by giving them to the low-brow/mouth-breather in the film.
