Default Should I wait for the Blu-ray or just go with the DVD?

Hi,

(Sorry if this has been discussed already...)

I´m asking myself this question several times a month...
"Wait, or just go ahead and buy the DVD Version"

especially some series...
i definitely want the "Sarah Silverman program" but it´s only available on DVD...
But i would love to see it in the better way (Blu-ray)

but then i look at some other stuff like "Prison Break" or "Weeds"...
these series are already / will become available (soon) on Blu...

now what to do...? buy or wait ?

What do you think, how long will it take untill Blu-ray is replacing all DVD´s...?

Can i be even sure that everything is getting replaced someday...

This whole thing is driving me crazy...

Default 5 years for a full catalog selection or...

not at all. Give it five years for the kind of availability you seek.

Are there that many movies/shows that would warrant a purchase? I know that in the past I have purchased movies and watched them once. They are now collecting dust. If you can be patient then just wait it out. Movies aren't cheap and you could spend your money on things that you actually require to live It will take years (at least 5-10 probably) for Blu-ray, if it is the winner, to replace many DVDs. I don't think the consumer is quite ready for HD. I am trying to learn from past mistakes on just buying a movie because I want to watch it. If that is the case, rent the movie and save yourself some money for the purchases that come out that you really really do want.

If you can afford it on BD and have a display capable enough to take advantage of it, get it now. The reason is simple: if you like the series, then you know you'd be watching it again and again. No point in wasting it on DVD.

If you have not seen the series, rent the DVD. Then decide.

My approach is:

If I want to watch it now, I'll rent or buy it now. In many cases I can't rent (like foreign imports) so I buy.

If it comes out later in Blu and it's something I'll want to see again (for the movie itself, or just to see it in Blu) then I'll rent or buy it in Blu at that time.

I try not to worry about it too much.

EDIT: Of course, if it's announced for Blu, then I'll wait.

Why waste your money on an unfunny show like Sarah Silverman, she isnt funny and theres a 100% chance it will come on Blu.

unless the show is filmed in HD then there's no point in gettin the HDM version unless they squeeze the entire season into one BD50... which would be a valid reason to buy it. otherwise, i'm with everyone else... sarah silverman... bah... would i do her? probably.

Blu-Style, some things in life are worth waiting for. I refuse to buy ANY DVD - including Transformers, the reason I bought my player!

I'm looking forward to selling all DVD's I can replace with blu-ray. They are 10 times better and take less space. I'm done with red - period.

I say just get them on DVD if it's something you really want and cant wait for and can stand to look at (Some blu users cant stand dvd definition anymore).
We are all blu-ray fanatics, but it will take some time until all new releases (by Blu studios) come out in both dvd and Blu. And it will take more time until many old dvd titles are converted blu.

If you really want the show get it on DVD. Most Blu-ray players do an excellent job of up-converting the DVD to a pretty good quality. You never know if a studio will go back and remaster a show for Blu-ray quality. On great plus with a Blu-ray disc is the protective coating that is put on the disc that will prevent the disc from getting scratched.

If you know it's on the near horizon, I say wait.

If not...screw it, get the DVD.

basically before i even got into the whole bd scene i was going crazy buying titles and seasons on dvd so seeing as how i still have those i do watch them on my ps3 with upconversion. to be 100% honest its not even close. to compare i chekced out two movies on both blu ray and dvd: Sleepy Hollow and Last Samurai. Even with Sleepy Hollow being as low in quality as it was it was still much better than upconverting

Haters like you should stay out of threads if you dont have something positive to contibuite. If he likes the show so be it not eveyone has to like or dislike what you do..........anyway to the point on hand what I do is If a show/movie doesnt have a release date on blu go cop the dvd verson and enjoy it. Keep it in mint shape and when/if it comes to blu sell the dvd on ebay and grab the blu-ray verson that way you get most of your money back from the dvd if you know what your doing on ebay that is. I just got superman doomsday and death proof on sdvd cause I wanted to watch them and hope someday they come out on bluray if no oh well at least I have the dvd
