Thumbs up Day After Tomorrow best picture quality!

WOW! Another stunning FOX release!! i knew it, since FOX is using those high bitrates AVC videotransfers and 50GB BD's , they increased their PQ a lot!!

The Day After Tomorrow Blu-ray

The Day After Tomorrow Blu-ray Review

Quote:
Video Quality on this release is 1080p in AVC MPEG-4 on a BD-50 Dual-Layered Disc. In a word, this transfer is absolutely stunning. There are numeous times throughout the film that the bit rate hovers around high-40mbps (The highest I saw was 49mbps). Grain is rarely ever present except during a slight sequence where it’s raining near the Capitol building. Colors, while sometimes overly pumped up (I noticed this during the airplane sequence in particular Sam’s face), were solid and sharp (take a look at the sequence at the beginning..breathtaking). The film’s print seems like it has been touched as sequences that were soft in the SD presentation looked spectacular here. In particular I loved the tornado sequence and the NY sequence (the beginning storm surge registered 48mbps for nearly 5 seconds solid)! I might be reaching here a bit, but this transfer is so impressive that I’m confident in ranking The Day After Tomorrow in the high Tier 1, if not Tier 0 range. Yes folks, the overall image is THAT impressive.

Man i kinda feel sorry for those HD DVD zealots, they'll never see such a great Transfer with their inferior format, too bad they are full of FUD to see how superior Blu-ray is , i've seen a couple of HD DVD's and none of them impressed me like Blu-rays with high bitrates AVC transfer.

i bet HDD will give those FOX titles 3-4 / 5, not because the PQ aint good, because its not their beloved (and inferior) VC-1 codec.

Bracke Bracke Bracke.......

i disagree with this...i am the biggest supporter of blu ray there is, but i am telling you right now that the PQ for king kong hd and v for vendetta hd supercedes most of the blu ray releases. however, blu's capabilities are higher, and the best blu's are usually better than the best reds, but these two were equal to any of my blu rays (50+)

back to the thread at hand...i am very excited to use this as a showoff movie...fun and interesting story that keeps it good, and great chance for amazing PQ...sounds like they succeeded so can't wait to show off blu!

but king kong and v for vendetta are not on blu-ray yet and by the time they are the PQ of Blu-Ray will be amazing and maybe some special blu-ray features might even be added plus they might even get better sound as well

WTF is this drivel? King Kong has I-Frame pulsing due to not enough bitrate, and has no lossless audio to boot. V for Vandetta is one of the crappiest looking transfers ive ever witnessed. Soft, Soft, Soft. Makes batman begins look sharp, and that is hard to do.

First off, i said "High bitrates AVC videocodecs", of course King Kong look better then some other BD's but not to those wich have really great high bitrate transfers!

i've seen King Kong on HD DVD by myself , yes indeed it has a good picture quality. but there are a lot of soft scenes wich could look much sharper with a higher bitrate, theres no way King Kong can keep up with Pirates for example, also King Kong has a suberp Master! just take a look at your DVD.

King Kong on HD DVD has some sharp images, but unfortunately NOT constant.

I couldn't find The Day After Tomorrow at Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA or Target. Guess I'll check again tomorrow and if I don't find it then, order it online.

Release day in my area seemed kind of messed up in general. Best Buy had a huge display for Fan4 as you walk in the door and another huge one in the movie section but no blu-rays for the Fantastic 4 Silver Surfer (also, no Day After Tomorrow as I already mentioned). They had everything else though so I picked up Dracula, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead and A Room with a View at BB.

Circuit City had about 30 Fantastic 4 blu-rays (maybe they got Best Buy's shipment) but nothing else for release day (picked up Fan4 Silver Surfer there). Target had a few Fantastic 4s but nothing else for today. CompUSA didn't have any of the new releases.

Edit: Ended up buying it locally at Suncoast. Also ordered it online at Circuit City and since it's already shipped, I guess I'll have 2 copies.

I don't have "King Kong" on HD DVD, so I can't comment on it, but "V For Vendetta" is only average when compared to most of my Blu-ray collection.

"The Chronicles Of Riddick", "The Mummy Returns", "The Hulk" and "The Scorpion King" are the only three exclusive titles I have on HD DVD which could even come close to surpassing my best Blu-ray releases.

I do have a handfull of other releases that are equal to a lot of my Blu-ray collection... "Serenity" and "Pitch Black" are two that come to mind...

~Alan<~~~~~~~Who would LOVE a "Serenity" Blu-ray with maxed out bitrate and Dolby TrueHD...

I was planning on getting this title on Blu-ray but after reading THAT, I can't wait! Sounds awesome. I saw it in theatres and I like the movie itself... should be a sweet addition to the collection!

This sounds great. And I'm hoping they'll do at least the same with Independence Day.

Talking I hope the sound quality is good!

I never got to see this one in the theater (only on DVD) but it looks like a movie that should rattle the foundation quite a bit.

I can't wait!

Ugh. Here I am with an absolutely stunning DTheater release of this title, and here I am thinking about getting it.

Son of a b*tch.

I should have my copy tomorrow unless it gets lost in the mail (like Troy did). I can't wait for it and I am hoping that Fantastic 4: Rise.... is this awesome too.

Speaking of Troy, I did not think the PQ was that great and it was running from 12 MBPS to 20 MBPS. But then I popped in Underworld and was blown away.

It does look awesome. Even the Fox logo looks extremely 3D! I hope that the PS3 actually is able to decode DTS-HDMA someday, I think this movie would sound just absolutely amazing with uncompressed audio. Oh well, the core audio track ain't to bad either.
