I streamed this film instantly on Amazon (US) last night.

It's very well done, although it's certainly uncomfortable viewing at times. It obviously won't be for all tastes.

Emily Browning gives a great - and brave - performance as a young woman who is sleepwalking through life (I'm pretty sure there is a double meaning in the title). She doesn't care about anything and does things - like having sex with random strangers and burning money - just because she can. She takes a job as a sex worker, although no actual sex is allowed. She is put to sleep and clients pay to do things to her while she sleeps. But eventually she starts to become curious about what goes on while she is asleep.

The rights were picked up by IFC Films in the U.S., so I guess there won't be a Blu-ray release in the States. It doesn't seem to be coming out in Australia (its country of origin) either. I guess I will be importing this title from the U.K.

I wish they'd get a move on and release Lemony Snicket too, that film had gorgeous visuals and art direction.

Since it's released by Revolver, it looks like Region Free may be a strong possibility.

Independent British distributors Revolver Entertainment have revealed that they will release on Blu-ray Julia Leigh's Sleeping Beauty (2011), starring Emily Browning, Rachael Blake, Ewen Leslie, Peter Carroll, Chris Haywood, and Hugh Keays-Byrne. The film was nominated for the prestigious Palme d'Or Award at this year's edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Street date is February 6th.

Death-haunted, quietly reckless, Lucy is a young university student who takes a job as a Sleeping Beauty. In the Sleeping Beauty Chamber old men seek an erotic experience that requires Lucy's absolute submission. This unsettling task starts to bleed into Lucy's daily life and she develops an increasing need to know what happens to her when she is asleep.

Haunting and provocative, Julia Leigh's powerful vision is one of the most startling debut features of recent years.

Strange at it may seem, with the Blu release only 3 months away, it appears it'll get a limited theatrical release early December, that may be just in the states. Even though it was one of those De Cannes "official selections" I suspect it'll be underwhelming. I'm sure it's a beautifully shot and visually provocative film to some critics, but I think I'm just going to see it as an Eyes Wide Shut 2: Nude Sleep-walking boogaloo.

It's scary to think that this goes on in the world.

I watched this last night. From the reviews I've seen and the word of mouth I've heard, this is clearly a 'love it' or 'hate it' film. I find myself in the former category, as I was terrified, but I found myself mystified by the stark honesty and the sterile cinematography. The ending left me breathless and shaken. I can't wait for the blu-ray release.

I loved this film, and cant wait to get the BD. Emily Browning is amazing. And I feel the nude scenes were handled quite tastefully.

Looking at Revolvers past releases a lot of them have been region free, so I don't see why this woul be any different, but until a reviewer or memer gets one to check we won't know 100%
