Default Silver Surfer Problem Samsung 1200

I just bought the new Fantastic Four Silver Surfer Disc and settled in to watch. A bright red screen appeared telling me that my player was not capable of reading the disc and I should download the latest firmware. This is a brand new player. I hooked it to my ethernet cable and the results were that I already have the latest version of firmware. The player works great on upconvert and the other Blu Rays I have work fine. What am I missing?

FF2 has BD+ copy protection. Samsung is behind in releasing a firmware update, though I would expect one before the week is out. Call Samsung

Whether it's BD+ or BD-J, it does need a firmware update and the firmware currently on the website (as of this moment) will not resolve this. I've already progressed thru executive customer support and they've promised an estimate for the update by tomorrow AM. More as I know more, though all 1200 owners are welcome to add their voices to the complaint. Call 800 522 7341 (Samsung executive CR direct line).

Default Also Covered In BD-P1200 Message

We have been talking about this in the BD-P1200 Player sticky message as well. I too was not very happy last night when I slid into my chair to watch this movie. I emailed them and told them that customers shouldn't have to be troubleshooting or testing new movies for them. Firmware upgrades are fine with me, but not having one ready is not.

So if i were to purchase the samsung 1200 or 1400 and then awhile down the road profile 2.0 is available will one of these two systems be able to update the firware to take advantage of profile 2.0 or should i hold out for a 2.0 player?

You don't need a 2.0 player to play BD-Java or BD+ equipped discs. You don't even need 1.1 profile players to do so. Your hardware has the capability to play interactive Java features and BD+, just give them til the end of the week or Monday next week and you're Profile 1.0 should be able to play FF-ROSS.

On the other hand, I highly recommend a PS3 for anyone who has not bought a standalone player, even though good standalone players have been proven to offer a "slightly" better picture quality, when I say slightly, its more like "you won't notice it - slightly - unless you have miscrospic eyes"

Yeah all these titles were highly anticipated. Wasn't Master and Commander pushed back because of a technical issue with a small group of players? I may be wrong but this is sort of like the same thing, IMO. These firmware updates should've been available to us on OCT2 or sooner. It's stuff like this that will damper Q4 sales. What would average joe do if he bought a player this week and some new FOX titles, and when he hooked everything up, nothing plays? Take it all back, because AJ won't give a shit about firmware.

Default QA Is Now Handled By Customers

This issue was especially bad for me because in general hardware and software manufacturers are pushing QA on their customers. We know Fantastic Four was pressed a while back, because some people mentioned that Walmart put them on the shelves by accident earlier than 10/2. So you know that Samsung could get copies for testing. This is a major release, and one that will drive sales of their players. The BD-P1200 is still on the market, and not obsolete where one could expect a slight delay. As the previous poster mentioned, literally someone could have picked up a 1200 and FF in the store yesterday only to find it would not play.

Very much looking forward to the firmware upgrade.

It sounds like a BD-j thing.

It should be available for download as a firmware.

I might be posting in the wrong thread, but I can not watch my FF2 yet. I have Samsumg BDP1200 and I just talked to a guy at Samsung and they are still trying to work on a firmware for it. I was ready to watch it but guess I will have to wait.

Be patient, it'll be worth the wait.

I'm having the same issue, Samsung BDP1200 and I can't watch a Blu-Ray movie. I'm typically pretty easy going but this is infuriating, a Blu-Ray player should play Blu-Ray movies.. period.

Hope they fix it soon

This has been thoroughly discussed in many threads. Run a quick search and you'll find all the information you could possibly want.

Power DVD 7.3 is probably not BD+ compliant and cannot decrypt the keys for FF4:ROTSS or Day After Tomorrow.

Go to the Cyberlink customer support page and post a help desk ticket. I'm sure they are fully aware of this by now.

I own both formats and thats pretty much FUD. HD DVD had the updates out and available in time to play all of its movies and use its advanced features as I recall. They have been great at doing that. BD's problem is its specs and not having them finalized from the get go before making the players. The format is evolving but thats pretty inconvenient for player owners, especially if their player ends up not being upgradeable at all.
