Default Best projector ever. Ever.

Sony Barvia VPL-VW200 Diamond

Seriously, best ever projector under £10k/$15k. I saw Sony demo this earlier in the year with a preproduction Spidey 2 Blu-ray, there is no better projector. The new JVC won't even cut it now.

If you can afford it, get it!

No, I can't afford it. Buy it for me. Thanks. The only specs I see bad are the lumens at 800. But maybe it's bright enough.

Maxpower, if you're into these things, have you heard any news about upcoming LED DLP front projectors (they are still upcoming)?

Have you seen the Qualia 04? The VPL-VW200 gets pretty darn close to the Qualia.

I'm actually waiting to compare the VW200 beside the JVC RS-2U and the SIM2 C3X side-by-side and see which does best.

I'm still wary of transmissive panel technologies and their blacks but I agree the VW200 looks pretty good alone.

Anandtech.com reviews projectors on display at this year's CEDIA. Click here to read more. Basically he says that the SIM2 C3X1080 at US$30K is the best projector for a home setup. It uses a 3-chip DLP system. Click here to read the SIM2 portion.

There's the Runco SC-1 that's for theater setup that exceeds the SIM2. The price is US$250K. Click here to read the Runco portion.

Once you cross that bracket, I'd much sooner get the professional eCinema 4k SXRD from Sony rather than the Runco, the Sony just comes in at about $100k without a lens, but that's just me.

Yeah which is why the Sony Diamond is the best under $15k.

I am not big time into projectors, I was just told that Sony were showing Spidey on their new fangled God-like projector so I should go and watch. It was awesome.

According to the Sony rep, there is only a 5 to 10% difference between the VPL-VW200 and the Qualia 04.

Me too, and a flying car to go with it ... I was asking b/c it looks like LED DLP projectors are now in the offing (probably for next year, with rear projection units already on sale) but I can't seem to find anything out about them.

Mitsu is supposed to be releasing a laser-based rear-projection DLP soon.

I've worked with laser projectors before and they are pretty awesome, IMO, their one biggest advantage is not needing to be focused or converged and when you couple 3 static beams with a DLP, it has incredible potential.

The biggest problem for them to become common is the size of the lasers and the power they consume for them to achieve the brightness needed for front projection. Then there's the safety issues.

I've seen many projectors over the years, and the Sony Qualia04 is one of the best I've seen...

Yet it still doesn't deliver what these bad boys can...
http://www.digitalprojection.com/ind...d=56&Itemid=59

or for those with a screen less than 30' diagonal...
http://www.digitalprojection.com/ind...d=54&Itemid=57

FYI: Those two series of projectors run around $40,000 -> $100,000

Who needs a house?

You're kidding, right?

The new Sony's are getting ~35,000:1 on/off with a dynamic iris, and the new JVC is at 30:000:1 native.

There are problems with 3-chip DLPs. I have seen them and I cannot stand the still ever present rainbow and occassional dithering artifacts. Before purchasing a ruby two years ago I auditioned many projectors and nothing beats LCOS for price/performance IMO. In two more years DLP won't compete at any price level.

GOing to be building another custom home in the not to distant future and the theater will be fitted with another LCOS (likely the VW300) or what ever is available at the time.

If you're seeing rainbows on 3 chip DLP, you have some crazy wound out saccadic eye response. I see fringing on every single chip DLP product I have looked at, and can't stand looking at CRTs at anything under 80 Hz refresh, and the color separation artifacts on 3 chip DLP are completely invisible to me.

Someone is the LCOS camp needs to put out a 2000+ lumen PJ if they want to go head to head with the high end home DPL units.

On dithering I am with you. I am finally getting my RS1 shortly.

I've heard this will street closer to $10k. I'll bet at CES next year their will be several kick ass 1080P front projectors announced under $5K.

Yes I know. Before I auditioned the 3 chip DLP I was stoked and then I saw them and I thought AYE!!!! Oh and the fatigue and headache were just as bad.

LCOS will soon have a high lumen projector... I think in the next two to three years it will arrive.
