Default Masters of Horror

Been reading a few reviews for Masters of Horror and have decided to buy both volumes, I am a big horror fan.

Anyone else picking these up, I can imagine them being good Halloween viewing, personally I'm looking forward to hearing the Carpenter commentary track.

being a horror fan myself, these certinaly caught my eye. Unfortunately, I know nothing about these titles. Are they similar to Tales from the Darkside or The Outer Limits/ Twlight Zone genre?

If you have not seen Dark Water, the original, Japanese one, I recomend it, also the Japanese Grudge 1 and 2 Not the US version(s).

60 minutes independant stories by directors such as John Carpenter and John Landis, they also seem to be hardcore horror movies, not toned down TV stuff.

For $20 seems decent value.

Thanks...I'll probably get 1st volume this week. I am craving some horror and am trying to buy mostly horror BDs this month.....then along came these sales in U.S. and now I am all over the map again.

Found these two reviews, sounds like there are at least a couple of very good films on each volume.

I've seen almost every episode of season 1 and IMO I think John Carpenter's Cigarette Burns and Dario Argento's Jenifer are the best episodes. Granted this is a subjective opinion and not the final say.

I liked Cigarette Burns and Jenifer as well. Also, Dreams in the Witch House which is on Volume 1, is very good. Jenifer is the first story on Volume 2. I have not had time to watch the other 2 stories on Volume 2, but am looking forward to it. Definitly recommend these to anyone who is a fan of Twilight Zone or Outer Limits. These are along the same lines, but more gore, nudity, etc. that the networks may have had a problem with.

i liked deer woman the best. it's the only movie where i actually cared about the lead characters. plus that brunette had the nicest rack i've seen, for being unusual.

Like most other folks on this thread, I haven't seen or heard of them (I am from Scotland), but I am a huge horror fan. So as they are region free I have ordered the 1st one to see what it is like.

Containing four episodes instead of the three on all previous Blu-ray releases of the series, 'Volume Four' is easily the most highly-anticipated of the bunch. In addition to 'Haeckel's Tale' (directed by John McNaughton) and 'Chocolate' (Mick Garris), the set includes Takishi Miike's 'Imprint' -- which proved so graphic that even Showtime refused to air it during the series' original broadcast run-- and Joe Dante's politically-charged 'Homecoming,' which both fans and critics have hailed as not only the best episode of the entire series, but also one of the best horror short films ever made.

I just finished watching Masters of Horror Vol 1 but when I got to the 3rd story Fair-Haired Child I ran into some problems. At the 45:45 mark the screen and audio went blank till 45:51. Has anybody else seen this or is it a defective disk?

Your help would really be appreciated

The word "perfect" came immediately to mind.

I was pretty disappointed by almost every episode -- I really wanted to like the series too!

Nothing that I saw (seen most of the episodes) was very good. Three episodes per volume at $20 isn't a terrible deal though... ~6-7 dollars is about what they are worth (and even then I have trouble rationalizing, as I haven't gotten them yet). Even though the directors are all famous, they felt like cheesy no-name horror movies.

I may end up picking them all up sometime next year... but for now I can't recommend it, even though I really want to like it and thought the idea of it was pretty outstanding. If you guys like it, more power to you -- someone has to support Starz!

I really do hope they release the Master's of Sci Fi on BR -- that I'd buy up in an instant (blind buy... I like Sci Fi more than horror -- I can handle cheesy Sci Fi easier).
