Default UK Blade Runner - Warner shafting us?

I really do not believe this, but it seems that the UK version of Blade Runner will ONLY have the new final cut:

UK release: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=66136
US release: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=65404

So we're paying MORE than the US (£18 vs $28), but the US version is a 5 disc set, while the UK is only a 2 disc set, and one of those discs is full of useless extras when they could have used that 2nd disc to give us more versions of the movie.

I am so pissed off about this, importing the US release would seem to be the only option for UKers, I prefer to have BBFC certified releases where possible, but I just cannot possibly justify buying the UK release in this case.

Come on Warner, what are you trying to do with this stunt?!!

Hehe, I'm not THAT upset, but I honestly can't even begin to understand what made Warner do this, I'm more baffled than anything else.

Hmm...Amazon.co.uk at least has a placeholder for the 5-disc Ultimate edition in the shiny suitcase.

Yeah, I'm DEFINITELY going to be carefull about ordering that title. I want the full package and not some halfa¤¤ed version.

Gods...I still get the shivers about the Norwegian release of "Das Boot - Director's Cut" on DVD. They managed to cut the german language DD5.1 track from the release...

They may release the 5 disk set later on? You might want to look into this deeper though. Are we the only ones (US/Canada) that are getting the 5 disk set?

I agree, that is not fair play.

I didn't think all Warner titles were region-free?? I'll wait until someone has it and can confirm it is in fact compatible with region B players.

Europe will get the same versions as USA, both the 2 disc and the 5 disc version.

Warner has only and will only release region free titles. Not a single disc from them is region coded.

Blu-ray discs are general more expensive in Europe. This is because 20% VAT always is included (0% in USA) and the dollar is very cheap right now.

Why's that? Nowadays UK releases come with not one but TWO big, ugly age classification certificates to ruin the look of the spine. Where possible I'll always go for the US release first for this reason alone.

But other than that I fully agree. The UK looks to be little more than an afterthought for both HD formats at the moment, and the current Blade Runner situation is of particular disappointment. But we should be used to this kind of treatment by now.

I used to buy a lot of UK releases but i stopped because of these stupid certificates........none of the Greek releases has these ugly certifications but they are more expensive.......i also go for the US release if it's region free or A,B,C.

I've got the Final Cut pre-ordered, I'm really not sure I want all five versions of the movie... but I don't doubt it will be available.
