Default A little help from my friends

...which would be you folks. Here's the situation:

My tv only supports 1080i via DTV. I have a PS3 and it's hooked up to the DTV inputs and looks great. I have an optical cable hooked up to my stereo. As you know, I'm not going to get the best sound in this situation as my stereo is a few years old and does not have HDMI or support the new soundfields.

So bit by bit I'll be upgrading. If I buy one of the new stereos, and still have the current tv/PS3 set up, will I be able to take advantage of the superior sound? Or would I have to invest in a stand-alone BD player? If I don't have to get a new BD player right away, is there a way to enjoy the lossless audio, or am I stuck in a rut until I get a whole new home theater: TV, Stereo, BD Player?

Go easy on me, I'd love to be able to take advantage of what BD has to offer but it'll take awhile for me to be able to afford all the new gadgets. So and suggestions or help would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance. If you don't feel like replying here, feel free to PM me.

OBTW, At the present I'm using the multi-a/v out. So I was wondering, could I use the HDMI output from the PS3 to plug into a stereo?
