Default Official Hot Toys Thread

I'm looking through Hot Toys' collection of 1/6 and 1/4 figures. I have a few questions; I'm hoping some of the kind folks on the forum here can answer them.

1) What is the build quality like?

2 How do they look on a shelf?

3 Is a limited edition of /1,500 or so worth spending the 200+ dollars on? I wouldn't hesitate to spend money on a couple figures, but I'd like to know if it's a good idea to do so. I'm a huge movie fan and am eying the Avengers LE collection in particular.

I've been looking through youtube and can't find much in terms of reviews or videos containing the actual figures, so any help would be appreciated!

Hot Toys are near the pinnacle of figures, head sculpts are superb and attention to detail is flawless. Their DX01 Joker is rated was rated as a gold standard for other companies to beat. The only slight "problem" is the 1:6 scale which can make some clothing look a bit thick but that's a fault of the scale and can only be avoided by going to 1:4 scale figures such as those by Enterbay (which are superb but pricey, their Terminator 2 is a great figure). Hot Toys are making tentative moves to 1:4 scale with the announcement of a Terminator figure and Enterbay have 1:4 scale Joker and Batman figures due.

http://www.mwctoys.com/ is very good for all types of reviews and http://www.onesixthbruce.co.uk/index.asp is a very good retailer

Your search strings on Youtube must be failing you as there are lots of reviews up there:

Try:

DX01 joker
DX02 batman
DX06 captain jack

Should reveal a bunch of videos that detail the quality of the figures.

Investment wise, the figures can be hit or miss, I believe the DX01 debuted <$200 and you can't touch that thing on ebay for less than $400 new in box I don't think. I've bid on several of them over the last couple of months. Needless to say I was really happy to see the DX11 get released as I will gladly pay the $250 for that figure brand new over the $400 on the DX01. Then there are other Hot Toys figure sitting on the shelf for their original price, like the Sweeney Todd that I've been eyeing for a while.

1) the build quality is amazing. They have the best sculptors in the 1/6 world. However they are high end collectibles, so you can't treat them like Hasbro toys and go crazy on the joints.

2) google searches can help you see people's hot toy collection

this is a site full of people's HT collection.

http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/fo...splay.php?f=20

3)it's really up to you. You could always wait for reviews to pop up on youtube to help you decide. When it comes to collecting, I never think about toys as an investment; because they are not. That's what stocks/bonds are for.

and I just tried youtube, and the search "hot toys review" brought up tons of stuff.

if you have any other questions, PM me. I see that you are a fellow Manitobian, I can give you links of places to get HT for good prices.

I've never had any issue with build quality on mine, but I know a few figures (the Toyfair Batman Begins exclusive and the DX02 Bats for example) have had some QC issues.

How they look on a shelf is up to you. I've seen pictures where it looks like people take them out of the box and plop them on the shelf. Sure they look better than a Hasbro figure, but it certainly doesn't look like 200+ dollars. If you take some time to set them up nicely they really come alive.

A lot of Hot Toys appreciate in value, but I'm not too sure about the Avengers figures. I have a feeling those will be available for some time to come. But like the above poster said, buy them because you like them, not because they may be worth more in the future.

Sideshowcollectors.com is probably the best resource for pictures of people's figures. Maglor and OMG are two members that really get some awesome pictures. Maglor has a whole thread of pics of his collection.

1) Pretty much what has already been said

2) Great. And they are solid enough to pose and stand without the use of the included platform stands.

3) Most of the HT figures are close to 200 dollars when they are released anyway. You will be paying that much regardless of if it is a limited edition or not. As far as the 1/6th Avengers go, the only actual limited run that was made available in 'wide' release is the Iron Man Mark VI, only 3000.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the links and information.

I'm treating my initial foray into HT collectibles not so much as an investment, but simply picking something out that I've seen the most positive reviews on, then deciding whether to continue on and buy more as they come out. Plus, they look really nice in general. I saw a couple of the youtube videos posted here, specifically on the DX01 Joker and Batman figurines; I think I'm pretty much sold. Now comes the hard part - which one to get.

Those look great, Yautja.

These things are pretty incredible. I have a Reeves Superman and it was easily distinguishable as being worthtye $230 + DUTY TAXES once I took it out of the box. I mentioned the DUTY TAXES because I noticed that you are in Canada.

I'm really upset now that I wasn't able to get a good 12" Iron Man figure from them. The only thing close enough that's available now is a 3' tall model at $2000!!! No... not a typo... $2000!!!

The Mark VII just went up for sale yesterday.

Demara, if you're a Nolan Batman fan it's a good time, since they're releasing the new and improved DX12 Batman, the DX11 Joker which absolutely kills the DX01, Bane, and Selina Kyle. Out of the bunch Bane is the only slight disappointment as he looks kind of scrawny and his costume has some accuracy issues.

Thanks for the heads up on the iron man. Why no DX love for ion man though? PERS just enhances ever 1/6, wish it was standard.

Cto15. I'm in Canada too so if you I know any places with HT deals I'm interested too. I've got the dx11 on pre-order and would like to pre-order the new iron man too.

I certainly am a fan of Nolan's batman; I've already checked out the DX12 and it looks amazing. I'm torn between it and the 1/4 scale figure though, tbh.

That's disappointing about Bane; he was my favourite character from TDKR.

1/4 are really large 18" vs 12" is a pretty big difference so make sure you plan for that. Personally I'd rather buy both the dx11 and dx12 for $50 more than just the enterbay dark knight. (based n the bbts pre sale amounts).

All I can say is that I'm extremely thankful that I have 8 months of prep-time before that $300+ is due! Also, I have 8 months to decide whether I will want him to be sporting the laser canon or mini rocket on his arm.

P.S. In case it was too subtle, that was my way of saying PRE-ORDERED!!!

Sounds like you pre-ordered from Sideshow, as they are reporting a March 2013 date, while BBTS is estimated Q4 this year. Can I ask if you or anyone else in Canada has ordered from Sideshow before? If so how much was shipping? They won't give me a shipping quote on the DX11 because apparently they don't do shipping quotes for pre-orders.

I'm alright with BBTS because they will ship USPS without signature, where-as it looks like Sideshow won't ship anything over $185 without a signature which can get pricey.

I think I'm alright with paying the $25 higher price on Sideshow's site over BBTS price because of the exclusive content, but if their shipping is going to be $50 more than BBTS I would reconsider.

I have ordered from Sideshow before. I got the Christopher Reeves Superman 12" figure. For the life of me, I can't find any details about the shipping cost though. I don't have an invoice in my order history with them, it's just an order summary that lists a $25 shipping fee as "estimated." So, I can't remember. I even tried to check my credit card history to see what the final charge was for the purchase to see if I could deduce the shipping cost.

All I know for certain is that there was a $35 VAT/IMPORT fee that needed to be paid to the delivery driver before they would release the box to me.

Thanks for looking into it for me... that sounds like it was sent UPS then. They like to charge a handling fee which drives me insance. I would so much prefer USPS. UPS is the worst international shipper you can use, guranteed $25 charge ontop of any custom/import taxes.

It says that my order was shipped via FEDIECO.

The 1/4 Bale Bats is tempting me just because it's an exhaustive Dark Knight/Dark Knight Rises Batman. Comes with the sonar head, backpack, sticky gun, and basically every key accessory he uses between the two films. I really want the backpack, other than that I love the DX12.
