It's been re-passed as a 15 with the BBFC, so I expect it will be a re-release Steelbook™. I'm speculating but I imagine the audio will match the uncut release so we may get a different codec if the uncut one isn't in PCM.

You watch, I think the whole vote for your favourite bond thing was just to get everyone whipped up into bond steelbook frenzy. Knowing play, i bet we will get every bond as a steel.

is it currnetly a 12?
is there any additional scenes added / language or has it jest been reclassed as a 15. is there any reason to upgrade from the deluxe edition to this? (not bothered by steelbooks, or slips covers, or gold 007 etc...

There is no re-release for CR beyond Bond 50 at the moment, what is listed on Play is just a placeholder for a potential standalone in the future. As it is though that set will feature the uncut version of the film, so is now a 15, but a few of the extras from the Deluxe Edition are missing.

The torture scene in the UK version was trimmed down, while whole chunks of the film were cut in the US. So this should be the uncut version (when it's eventually release) available for the first time in the UK.

Originally the BBFC were given the option of a 15 certificate cut they opted to trim the film for a 12 certificate and a much wider theatre audience.

Only the second Bond film to be awarded a "15" certificate, after Licence To Kill.

On that related subject, I watched A View To A Kill recently when it aired on TV, I thought I would give it a watch to see what the HD image was like. Anyway, there is a fight scene at the horse sale bit towards the start of the film between Bond, that guy from The Avengers whos name escapes me and two henchmen. I'll get to the point now; the fight scene just looked like it had been severely edited, either for time or for violence. One shot had Bond duck a punch, whereby the henchman guy punches a box, they then do a quick cutaway to Avengers guy, then half a second later we see Bond standing over the henchman laying down on the wooden conveyer. What happened between Bond ducking the punch and the guy getting layed out?!?!

I seem to recall Diamonds Are Forever received a number of cuts to, I presume for violence.

It's a keeper....

Off the top of my head A View To A Kill, Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies and Casino Royale all received cuts for their theatrical releases but have all turned up uncut (eventually)....

Not a big fan of cuts but I'm not a big fan of seeing someone get smacked in the nuts either!

Unless it's with a ball/baseball bat/kids head as he rides underneath Dad on a tricycle on You've Been Framed! I always enjoy those....

I was always slightly baffled by what they cut out of Casino Royale. Does the removal of one line of dialogue make that much difference to the certificate?

If I recall correctly, the line "such a waste", was cut when he puts the rope on his shoulder from the UK release. Can anyone explain why? What concequence does this have by keeping it in?

From the BBFC website:
Quote:
This film was originally seen by the BBFC in an unfinished version, for advice as to the film's suitability at '12A'. The BBFC advised the company that the torture scene placed too much emphasis on both the infliction of pain and the sadism of the villain for the requested '12A' category. When the completed version of the film was submitted for classification, reductions to the torture sequence had been made, including the removal of lingering shots of the rope, close shots of Bond's facial reaction and the substitution of a more distant shot of the beating compared to the original version. This re-edited version of the scene was considered acceptable at '12A', where the Guidelines permit violence provided there is no dwelling on detail or emphasis on injuries.

Hi Jezza,

I've read that BBFC gumf before, but I still don't understand why specifically the draping of the rope on the shoulder and the line "such a waste" was trimmed. I can understand stuff like the number of impact blows shown, or impact sounds, screams etc getting trimmed.

I know you guys put real importance into cuts but it dosen't concern me.It's what it is when it's released and most films you're talking something like 1 minute missing or less.Who cares if we don't get to see his balls being spanked. or something.

Looks like someone has been reading my posts, cause they finally made a set with both of the first two Craig-bonds in a set. :P
Well, it just makes sense to do it, that's why I said they should have.
But does anyone know if there's something special about it? I wish they'd have added something extra,
cause most people would have 'Casino Royale' anyway, so they should've gives some more incentive.
And I STILL wish that the "Definitive Edition" of 'Quantum of Solace' would've come.
However, now it's seemingly not even possible to júst get 'Quantum of Solace' unless I buy it from an alternative seller.

Two things; Why is it not available anymore? And then, when it was available, why was it so expensive?...
The fine Deluxe Edition of 'Casino Royale' has pretty much always been there and I happened to catch it at a very low price some time ago.

Would someone mind trying the original standard release of Casino Royale in their PS3 (the slim version up-to-date) or Samsung BD-C5300 (if you have one...)? My BD is as dead-as-a-doornail. I emailed SONY weeks ago to ask for advice and got no reply but I tried again last night and they got back to me minutes later:

Quote:
The defect you report is not a known manufacturing issue with this Title. As we have not discovered any problems with the manufacturing quality of this product, the problem is most likely due to a compatibility issue between your particular Blu-ray player and the SPHE BD. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure compatibility between all SPHE BDs and every Blu-ray player and/or computer worldwide. The issue may be with the Blu-ray player, software, or computer, but it is not with the authoring of the BD. Please contact the Blu-ray player manufacturer to request a firmware upgrade for your player.
I don't think my BD players are the problem as the disc isn't even recognised by either machine (the Samsung ejects it), and it played fine a few months back. I know some Lionsgate (Basic Instinct?) titles in the US just stop playing, I wonder if my Casino Royale is similar?

I'd really appreciate if someone could check their copy.

Paid £8 for mine and I was happy with that. I did think of selling it and getting this newly announced one but then thought whats the point? Just for a few seconds extra in a torture scene which is pretty nasty anyway lets be honest! Cant believe they got away with a 12A here.

I already have the uncut version that I picked up whilst in Amsterdam last year, PCM sound as a bonus too. BD's were quite cheap over there I thought, got 2 films for 15 Euro.

If it has a 15 rating on it, it's going to be uncut, rest assured
