I love this film, but I prefer the 132m US cut over the Criterion Director's Cut. The 10 minutes of cuts really make the film flow a lot better and make the ending more suspensful, imo. If the new Criterion includes all three cuts (omitting the love conquers all) of US, International, Director's Cut than I could get behind it. That being said, the Universal BD of the 132m cut is highly recommended, especially if you never viewed the film before. I'd recommend the Director's Cut only for a later viewing because it sort of ruins the suspense of the ending.

I've heard a few people raving about this film but I have never seen it. Checked out the trailer on YouTube. Wow. This thing looked like Blade Runner meets Alice in Wonderland!

Ah man, this is awesome news.

Alas, I've already triple dipped on this, with the Criterion 3-disc DVD, the Universal Blu-Ray, and then the UK Blu-Ray. So now I got a five disc set for this movie.

I...must...resist........quadruple...dipping...

Thanks for the news OP!
I still don't know if I'm going to let go of my DVD set.
Unless Criterion matches or improves upon the previous packaging and supplemental features, I can't see myself ever getting rid of it. I'll have to find a way to combine all the discs into the original DVD packaging.

This'll be quite the improvement over my non-anamorphic DVD. :)

Same here!
But I still don't know which blu-ray to get.
This Criterion Blu-ray or the very appealing and positively reviewed French Digibook Collector's Edition.

At the very least, they'll port over all of the extras, and may even create a new featurette or two. I can't wait to ditch that massive DVD set and free up some shelf space.
