Default Hammer horror films US announcement

NEWS: REPORTED IN U.S.VARIETY TRADE PAPER TODAY! Millennium to Release Hammer Titles in U.S.

Deal covers pics including 'Dracula: Prince of Darkness,' 'Frankenstein Created Woman'

Millennium Entertainment will distribute titles from Exclusive Media’s Hammer library in the U.S. in a deal that covers Hammer titles going back to 1966’s “Dracula: Prince of Darkness.”

Millennium said the alliance will introduce the Hammer Horror brand to a new audience not familiar with the Hammer titles classic line and provide limited edition Blu-rays and Collector’s Sets over the next several years.

First three-film set will be released in April and include “Dracula Prince of Darkness,” Peter Cushing in “The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires” and “Frankenstein Created Woman.”

Hammer has been part of Exclusive Media since 2008. Launched in 1934 as a specialist in horror, it returned to features after a three-decade absence in 2010 with “Let Me In.”
Presumably, these will be most - if not all - of what has been released in the UK via StudioCanal, ie the titles AB had released in the US previously.

great news!
wonder if they will be able to correct some of the problems that have plagued some of the UK releases.
obviously they can't bring back the original effects in the Devil Rides Out, but I think some of the other issues could possibly be improved/corrected.
in the end they probably will be the same.

More Hammer on Blu-ray is always good news. I haven't owned a copy of Frankenstein Created Woman since I got rid of my Laserdisc player several years ago.

Hopefully they bring out the Horror of Dracula edition that comes out in 2 weeks, as well as Quartermass and the Pit (since they are already remastered).

the thing is Warner controls a lot of those titles in the US, so is the deal going to allow those films to be included?
Horror of Dracula is Warner for sure.

I expect nothing more than ports of the UK bds (of titles that AB had released on dvd). The unholy Hammer trinity of HORROR OF DRACULA, CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, and THE MUMMY (plus some of the sequels to Frank n Drac) will ONLY come from WB.

These will likely be region A, since the UK releases are almost all B.

There has been a lot of controversy on the PQ of some of the UK releases.

Was considering to start importing the UK discs, but perhaps I'll just wait. Thanks for the news OP!

Yes, I would purchase almost all of the titles listed above. I really hope this distributor knows what they are doing with Blu-ray, they don't seem to have a huge catalog of Blu-ray releases.

I think it was a smart move to preempt Warner's eventual release of their Hammers on Blu-ray, if we ever get them.

A couple of their releases, The Invisible Man: The Complete Series and Wu Tang Iron Fist Collection, appear to be unmitigated disasters.

That's for the UK only. WB's Hammers still belong to WB here in the US. THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT is still owned by MGM in the US too. KRONOS and FATMFH are owned by Columbia - or is it Paramount?

Not sure why they're bothering with DVD releases right off -- these have all been issued before and fans are ready for HD versions.
