Mature Animated Films

I'm a big fan of animation, but I'm interested in trying more adult-oriented animation. This does not mean raunchy or r-rated, I consider some Pixar films as more "mature" offerings.

I've seen all the Ghibli films (and loved them), along with some others, but just recommend everything you can think of. Even if I've seen it your suggestions will be useful to other people looking for the same thing.

A lot of the Batman animated films are geared towards mature viewers. They're actually more enjoyable than 80% of live action super hero movies.

A Scanner Darkly, Animatrix, and Iron Giant are definitely worth considering.

it was one of my favorite films of last year. such a joy to watch and yes the visuals are stunning. though i do recommend trying it out on netflix.

I'd say Evangelion 1.11 and Evangelion 2.22 are good choices, especially if you were a fan of the original Evangelion anime.

Beowulf was also an okay movie.

If it's any kind, I wonder if any of the various annual animated film festivals ever get released to bluray. I love those.
