Default A Christmas Story 30th anniversary (steelbook)

will the new version finally include a Lossless non-mono soundtrack? I don't even care if it's just stereo, but mono isn't acceptable.

It's unacceptable to use the film's original audio?

Usually people complain about the audio quality of mono to stereo/surround conversions. Just look at the Terminator thread and you'll see people wishing they had the mono included.

Considering this movie is purely dialogue driven, having either the original mono or a stereo up convert would work, anything more then that would be a waste in my humble opinion. But they should at the very least give you the option of the original mono audio.

It should include a portable chair too with one of those rumbler packs, like what they used in theaters for movies like The Tingler.

If you look in the back of the steelbook edition, it says that the audio is DTS-HD Master Audio, while the others only say Dolby Digital 1.0, so I have every intention of getting it anyway because I'm curious to know what it will sound like...

I agree that this is one of the few motion pictures where there would be no need for overzealous refinements in the sound mix, say if a 5.1 mix were to even be attempted. Like you said before, this is a pretty dialogue driven film. The only places in the film that would even benefit from a 5.1 mix would be at the beginning "BIGBEEs" segment(city ambient type stuff and the choir) and the shopping mall sequence.

My feelings on the matter are this: if someone is gonna do a "surround sound" (5.1, etc, whatever) mix for ANY film, I would prefer it to happen only if all of the original sound materials used in the original mix are located and included, especially before they try to add new sounds to try to "sweeten" the mix.

As a general fan of "A Christmas Story", I can't and will not speak to any certainty as to how extensive an archive was kept in regard to separate sound elements for this film's mix. I've not done any research on the matter.

In fact, the only thing I do know that at least the musical score for the film is available in stereo. Look no further than Youtube.

the next re-release of it this probably won't be until the 35th Anniversary or perhaps even 40th Anniversary.

Source!

While, initially, I was going to cancel this order as I didn't prefer the steelbook artwork, it has grown on me...and I'm looking forward to receiving this on Tuesday.
Heck it's a classic, and while this will be the first Christmas with my Father having passed, I think the family will enjoy it just the same.
