Default 'Undateable' - NBC, From the Mind of Bill Lawrence

Quote:
NBC Orders 'Undateable' From Bill Lawrence

NBC has picked up "Undateable," from "Cougar Town" creator Bill Lawrence. "Undateable" stars Chris D'Elia (who is now free after NBC canceled "Whitney" on Thursday) as "confident slacker" Danny Beeman who takes Justin (comedian Brent Morin) on as a roommate. Since Danny sees himself as "the ultimate player," he decides to help Justin's group of "romantically challenged" friends.

Synopsis:

Quote:
UNDATEABLE

When confident slacker Danny Beeman (Chris D’Elia, “Whitney,” ”Glory Daze”) takes Justin (comedian Brent Morin) on as a roommate, Danny unwittingly inherits Justin’s group of romantically challenged friends. Seeing himself as the ultimate player, Danny decides to teach the crew (who he dubs “The Undateables”) everything he knows about “the game of love.” For their first lesson, Danny takes the guys to an event hosted by his sister, Leslie (Bianca Kajlich, “Rules of Engagement”), who is a single mom with dating difficulties of her own. At first, Danny’s advice seems to pay off big-time: The shy guy talks to a girl, the no-filter dude learns it’s never OK to ask a woman when she’s due, and his nebbish roommate, Justin, goes home with a mystery woman. It’s not until the next day that they figure out it was Leslie! Talk about a bunch who just can’t get lucky! From the executive producers of “Cougar Town” comes a hilarious new comedy about the “do’s,” “don’ts” and “duhs” of dating. From Emmy-nominated executive producer Bill Lawrence (“Scrubs,” “Cougar Town”), Jeff Ingold and executive producer/writer Adam Sztykiel (“Due Date”) “Undateable” is a production of Warner Bros. Television and Doozer Productions. Scott Ellis (“Guys with Kids”) directs the pilot episode.

Over a year after being picked up Undateable is finally premiering tonight. I like Bill Lawrence's shows so I'll give it a shot, but it's with the knowledge that this show is almost certainly dead on arrival and won't last beyond it's initial run.

The link has a story by Bill Lawrence about the show's development, the stars (and Lawrence) doing a comedy tour to promote the show and his feelings when he learned it wasn't airing in the fall and then learning it wouldn't be airing during the regular TV season.

Watched both of last night's episodes, and while I didn't think the show was bad it wasn't anything special. I'll keep watching it, and from what I've read it gets better, but don't have high hopes overall.

The debut of "Undateable" scored as the highest-rated summer comedy series premiere on the Big 4 networks in five years, since ABC's "The Goode Family" on Wednesday, May 27, 2009.

It's also NBC's highest-rated summer comedy series premiere since "Come To Papa" on Thursday, June 3, 2004.

In total viewers, "Undateable" is the biggest overall audience for a summer comedy series premiere on the Big 4 nets in seven years, since CBS's "Creature Comforts" on Monday, June 4, 2007 and best for a summer comedy series premiere on NBC since "Come To Papa."

All six episodes of "Undateable" to date have out-rated every episode of all three of last summer's original comedies on the Big 4 networks (NBC's "Save Me" and Fox's "Anger Management" and "The Goodwin Games") in adults 18-49.

I'll never understand why sitcoms with horrible writing get such high ratings.

Great news to me. Hopefully NBC will see that and want to bring it back next year.

I've been enjoying the show! It is a bit silly sometimes, but I think as the episodes go on, they are getting better.

Exactly four weeks after NBC aired the final episodes of Undateable‘s first season, its star and creator took to Twitter with some very good news: Danny and the gang are coming back for a second season.

Chris D’Elia was the first to share the comedy’s Season 2 renewal with fans.

Creator Bill Lawrence quickly followed that up with his own version of the good news.

Undateable premiered outside of May sweeps to 3.8 million total viewers and a 1.3 demo rating, marking the best-rated summer comedy launch for any Big 4 network in five years. In a recent TVLine poll, 87 percent voted in favor of renewal.

This marks the second new NBC summer series to earn a renewal, following the medical drama The Night Shift.

Glad it's coming back. It wasn't amazing but it's better than most summer programming and I'll always watch Bill Lawrence's shows. I figured it was pretty much DOA when it got a summer slot but it surprised me and performed well by NBC's standards.

99% of the shows mentioned in this thread, I never heard of before reading their names just now

Anger Management and Scrubs are the only ones I've heard of and watched. Cougar Town I've heard of, but never watched. And only heard of because they play the commercials about 50 times a week on TBS. The others, I've never heard of before.

Undateable's second season will premiere on Tuesday, March 17 on 9 PM ET. It's interesting that they're moving it into the regular television season rather than the summer. It seems like they want to see if it could potentially become a part of their regular schedule, as all of NBC's comedies are tanking this year to the point where it wouldn't be a shock if NBC cancelled all their comedies.

I would like to rewatch the series but Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and even NBC app doesn't have this, I wonder why?

Universal didn't produce it, so it wouldn't be on the NBC app... that's only for current NBC shows and old shows they produced. It's produced by WB so it may end up on HBO Max.

They also might have trouble with how they filmed an East Coast and West Coast version for each live episode they did.

There's a show that started on Netflix in November called Happy Merry Whatever, and features Brent Morin and Bridgit Mendler as a couple again... you can watch that and assume it's an alternate reality sequel.
