Default What will happen to HD-DVD backers?

The past couple weeks have certainly been great for Blu with lots of positive updates, news and new release dates being set. It seems only a matter of time before Blu-ray will be getting the HD trophy in replacing DVDs as the next format.

I'm just curious to see how many HD-DVD backers/fanboys will be making the jump to Blu-ray right away? How fast all of those hardcore HD-DVD supporters with a library over 100+ titles will be replacing them with blu-ray movies? The HD DVD fans will have no choice eventually, but I wonder how quick it will happen??

Go Blu!

Actually I think they all just die.

Which is why I haven't bought one. 'Cause I want to live, LIVE I SAY. Live in a free world. Free of space constraints and lousy, plasticly looking players that weigh 2 lbs.

My guess is some will say they will never support BD and some probably won't. Others will jump right in and others will wait a while.

I think that most of them will buy either a BD player and just have 2 stand alones to play both types of movies. That or they will get the new Dual Format players that will be coming out. That seems like it will soften the blow for those that messed with the wrong format. At least it wont be a total loss for them

A very good question. My best guess would be that it won't happen until they have no choice, and even then it will only be when there's enough movies out there that they want to own. I, personally, would be pissed to have my format lose, and wouldn't be too willing to go out the next day to buy the other format.

I think there will be a big turn-over once the final films being released on DUD are out there, and there will be no more new releases on that format. But there will be a large amount of hold-outs. People who refuse to believe that their format is dead and will forever hold out hope that somehow it can be revived. This in not an exclusive DUD trait, the same thing would occur with a few Blu-boys out here. But ultimately, not having any other choice will make the decision for the majority.

If this was to happen to me, i would be upset of course.. but I would eventually buy 2 things, an HD-DVD player, and an HDMI switch. I don't want to do this, but if I have to then I would. However it would take me a few months mainly to save up the money to afford them.
I support Blu-ray because it IS the better format and movies deserve the best they can get (on the most part), but I am a movie/film fan FIRST and foremost.

Some others may fire sale on ebay. A few may not have the money or space for that second blu-ray player. Period. Bills before pleasure, ya know.

HD DVD supporters probably already replaced a number of DVD titles as many of us do with blu-ray. Would YOU want to rebuy that movie for the 3rd or 4th time? Especially ones you just bought? Heck no, they are holding on to their investment and player. Some may look for a combo player and migrate to blu.

But it always comes down the end of the life cycle of the product. What happens when you can't fix or replace that HD DVD player? Ebay to the rescue? But for how long?

I think the hd fanboys will go back to randomly attacking people on the streets and punching babies. that seems to be the personality type that still defends hd dvd at this point.
