Australia Scream (1) Blu-ray 2009 / 2013 Differences Question

I was planning to buy the Scream films on Blu-ray sometime soon and I noticed that there was a new release for the first film by Roadshow at the shop I saw it at:

I've seen the original 2009 release by Icon Home:

and I noticed that this had a 4% higher pitch that PAL conversions typically have but it still had a 1080/24p encode for some reason.

I know that the Roadshow release of films 2-4 aren't plagued by this issue so if anyone has the Roadshow release of the first, has it been re-encoded without the 4% higher pitch or is it straight ported from the Icon Home/2009 release?

The top release is a port of the us/uk lionsgate release. No subtitles though

Why's that bad? it's better than the Icon release.

Yup it is. Pq is a bit better but i dont unsderstand how hard it is to port subtitles over. Esp when part 2, 3 and 4 had subs. I cant hear properly out of my left ear and it shits me to no end when companies release things with no subs. The recent releases of scanners and the brood were fantastic but no subs. Same goes for hellraiser 2 and 3. Rant over lol

Not really a rant, thetechnique.

I've always thought that an optional SDH sub in the film's language should be a required inclusion in the BD specifications. It's just ... inclusive.

It's almost prejudiced. Every movie should have Subtitles for it's native language depending on country of release.

And while we are on the topic of Scream. I have this edition and was wondering if I need to upgrade also. Are the other versions of the film better in other country releases too? For $30 for all 4 movies from the states is a bargain and worth it just for the extra 2 bonus documentaries. I might just double dip

I typically have subtitles on when I'm watching something as I'm a bit deaf myself unfortunately and sometimes certain tracks have severe uneven levels between dialogue and music/SFX (e.g The Matrix). Plus I've already had to face one release of Scream 1 having no subtitles, which was an old fullscreen R4 DVD years back.

Since the video on the Icon release already has a 1080/24p encode, what I'll do instead is rip the disc, drop the audio pitch by 4% on the DTS-HD track and reburn it, which would be much easier for me than syncing the subtitles to the Roadshow release if it's out.

Yeah $18 is certainly very cheap for the trilogy

The top 1 is better is it? I already have the Icon version, and it doesn't even line up with 2-4 well because of the different text

? PAL doesn't exist with Blu-ray. That's a DVD thing.

PAL conversions typically refer to the 4% speedup, so I didn't mean the format. HD still has a 25/50i frame rate too and there's the rare few Blu-rays, typically in PAL regions, that have unfortunately been encoded at 1080/25i / 1080/50i with the speedup, most likely due to the masters used.

Three other titles I know of that do, are Pulp Fiction [AU release], Once Were Warriors and the UK edition of The King's Speech (But the AU release had the normal 1080/24p encode).

I'm not touching SCREAM 1 unless it's the uncensored version.

actually I can hear it between the different languages, I think on Star Trek 2 between English and German you can hear the pitch shift, the german version is more reminiscent of our dvds from 10 years ago. ill check that now to see if I was imagining it!,.
