So here are a few topics/questions, which should provide a rather lively discussion.
Topic One: I gave Superman/Batman: Public Enemies a try after good reviews on Amazon, but didn't care for it that much. Mainly because there was too much Superman and not enough Batman. It felt like Batman was just thrown in as a last minute decision. Question One: Based on my assessment of Public Enemies are there any Superman/Batman titles you'd think I'd enjoy and should check out? Topic Two: This year following the release of the Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, James Tucker replaced Bruce Timm as DC animation supervising producer Question Two: With Bruce Timm gone, do you think there will be any future titles to the DC Universe Original Animated Movies that are as good as the previous titles? I heard Tucker was going to make all original stories, rather than animate already published comics. Topic Three: Remember how awesome Batman: Mask of Phantasm was? Or how awesome Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond were? Question Three: Does anyone know when these titles are coming to Blu-ray Disc? I have Mask of Phantasm on VHS and the Batman shows on DVD, but it would be great to give them the BD treatment. Topic Four: Other Batman titles I should check out Question Four: Here's a picture of the animated titles I already own on Blu-ray. Other than Justice League stuff and Superman stuff, there doesn't seem to be much more in the way of Batman. What would you recommend I try? Last edited by Scarface32; 10-11-2013 at 11:36 PM. |

Batman Year One is underwhelming but its still crucial to Batman's animated history.
Under The Red Hood is very very good, but a little over-rated here. Gotham Knights is cool w/ duds and bangers. The Dark Knight Returns is the best of the bunch and essential. JL: The New Frontier has enough old school Batman in there to satisfy Bat-Cravings. And if your a Nolan guy.....a derivative is the new Arrow show. Green Arrow is already a DC Batman-esque character in the first place. U just to be willing to sit through the love story/family tv themes. |

Reading the comic, it seemed better... I guess because I read fast, so it didn't seem like such a long stretch of just Superman. ![]() Quote:
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give this one a try. I haven't read the comic, so the story will be a surprise ![]() |

I can not wait for the day that we finally get Batman Mask of the Phantasm on BD.
To me that is the best batman film ever made period. As much as I liked Dark Knight Returns, and as much as I like Peter Weller, it was a mistake not have Kevin Conroy play reprise the role of a older Bruce Wayne/Batman |

No, they don't. Options are fine and especially understandable when they need a young Batman (though I still believe Conroy could pull it off) but I think Conroy would've given a substantially better performance in TDKR. Conroy is the best. You don't "graduate" from the best, you settle for the next best and who wants to do that?

Topic One:
I gave Superman/Batman: Public Enemies a try after good reviews on Amazon, but didn't care for it that much. Mainly because there was too much Superman and not enough Batman. It felt like Batman was just thrown in as a last minute decision. Batman wasnt thrown in there, he's part of the original comic. And as many Batman as the focus movies out there, I find nothing wrong with him "supporting"(from your perspective) Superman. Question One: Based on my assessment of Public Enemies are there any Superman/Batman titles you'd think I'd enjoy and should check out? There arent any more World's Finest animated team up films. Tucker is an excellent director, and its time for a new direction. And yes I think there will be animated project that are "as good" as the Timm regime. Tucker knows his DC history and Brave & The Bold is his opus to that. And its a switch from the over-used Dark Batman. The BATS wont get the BD treatment according to TIMM. Google it. Topic Four: Other Batman titles I should check out Under The Red Hood, and every other DC film w/ him in it.....Crisis on Two Earths is a Batman vs Owlman w/in the JL and Crime Syndicate story. I think it was a better story than Public Enemies, and it has Supergirl as well as Wonder Woman too. |

![]() I prefer the animation adaptation of McGuinness' style in PE over Apocalypse. Its more of a SuperGirl story w World Finest in it. |

I really like all of these... though to be fair I haven't gotten around to watching the Wonder Woman one or the Green Lantern Emerald Knights one yet.
I've bought and watched everything else, though. IF I had to rank them, there are certainly some I enjoyed more than others. Oh, and I haven't watched Dark Knight Returns yet. I was going to watch it but waited once I learned the deluxe version was coming out and now that I have that (got the Target steelbook version) I can watch it in one shot. I would like to see them branch out a bit to other characters... but it is hard to deny that Superman and Batman are bigger sellers thus far. I also have to admit that I have liked the Batman ones better overall, probably... though my favorite might be one of the shorts... that Spectre short-film they did was pretty cool. |

Didn't care for New Frontier. But a warning about it...Bats is in about 5 minutes of it. It felt rushed and suffered from it's short run time.
Year one also suffers from a to short run time also. That adaption was probably the biggest letdown. Under the Red Hood was the most surprising. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2 |
