Welcome to the HT forum, fellow Missourian!

I'd love to see more pics of your setup once everything is in place. Have you been thinking about which receiver you're going to shoot for?

It depends on what you want it to do. If you plan on upgrading your speakers soon I would look for one with more watts per channel, and then you have to think about 5.1 or 7.1. It's always better to save a little more instead of having to buy another recciever in a year. That is just my 2 cents though.

And maybe some pre-amp outputs for future upgrades ....... there my added 2 cents

that's one of the big reasons I'm looking at this 5.1 set-up, I don't think I'm going to need a big 7.1 system & when I do get one I'll probably have it longer then a year anyway.

I'll see your pennies and I'll raise ya another $0.02.

When I upgraded my receiver, I had to get 2 HDMI outs. One for TV, one for projector.

You should check out http://www.accessories4less.com. You can find nice deals for AVR's on there, and use http://www.monoprice.com for your cables. If you are referring to the 5.2 Sony at Wal-Mart, it's a good budget unit. Since you are talking about Onkyo a4l has some refurbished units for a decent price.

Hi Darkpoet , I did look at accessories4less.com. I found the Onkyo TX-SR313 here's the link http://www.accessories4less.com/make...eceiver/1.html the sony I was looking at was a 7.1 & it's a little over the top for me. Thanks

Hi Travis, Thanks for the welcome.

I would still look for something with around 100 watts per channel, but that's just me. Other than that the reciever you were looking at is decent.

But one must remember ........... Especially when it comes to AVR's 100 watts is rarely ever truly 100 watts

It's really just an arbitrary number manufacturers use for marketing

http://www.audioholics.com/audio-amp...-power-ratings

Ain't audio fun

for me decent is better then nothing. In terms of sound it's better then the speakers in my TV.

But it's probably truer to spec than the so-called 100 watt unit

This is true. Onkyo used to have some 5.1 setups on a4less for like 200. That's another option. In the end I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you buy. I'm just throwing options out there for ya.

I thank you for your input , but just figured that since I already have four speakers from a old all-in-one setup & hopefully save a few bucks just buying a new receiver.

Also how am I doing as a home theater novice so far everyone? just curious
