Thumbs up Great news: NO Bourne Trilogy for HD DVD (DVD only)

This should help Blu-Ray's numbers in December:

Only the set won't come out. Bourne Ultimatum is still coming out by itself as scheduled.

Just that there's not going to be a box set like our Spidey.

Universal's just waiting until the first quarter of next year so they can bundle the three titles together in a Blu-ray box set, considering how successful Sony was with the Spidey Trilogy!

just not a set (like spiderman)
but they'll have em individually

either way think of it this way... everytime hd dvd releases a "blockbuster" however bad it may be (ex shrek 3rd) there's always a bogo sale... so all it means is that we have another chance before christmas to cop another 10-20 bds each and make another big title look ridiculous

guys, i think you are blowing off one of the most important pieces of news since the paramount sell out. the hd dvd install base is low and the first two bournes have sold fairly well (for hd dvd), so a lot of people aren't going to be interested in a box set (think if spidey had the first two movies out before 10/31, that box set would have sold like crap) as they just need one movie to complete the collection. i wuold guess maybe 20k would sell max on hd dvd, despite many ppl owning the first two on dvd, it will still sell 750k on dvd simply due to the huge install base. 20k is going to make the box set turn up a financial loss, so it makes perfect financial sense for universal not to put this set out. financial sense is not something universal has been using so far in this war. im sure the hd dvd group would want a hd dvd box set and if universal was under contract we'd see them put one out and get a nice check from the hd dvd group. contracts up with uni it seems and if thats the case this is big.

First off, not really great news... just news. Secondly, Amazon is bundling them together for $50 so even though it is not an official box set, you can still get the equivalent.

There goes Amazon again, quickly coming to help out HD DVD fans by offering their own three-pack bundle for $50. Another sign of favoritism on their part toward HD DVD.

True, and instead of one movie, it will be sold a three movies individually. So it probably isn't a set, just three movies together, which is actually really cheap, but it is only Amazon. I don't see them doing this for Pirates, although, Disney will probably do another $10 off thing with that and one of the other movies. Maybe they should offer buy two of them get one free. That would bump the sales for the Pirate movies. I am also fully expecting some kind of sale from Disney and Sony again during Bourne week.

That is a "non-news" story just to promote the Amazon deal.

If I gaves 2 craps about HD-DVD this would actually be better for me because I'd prefer the amazon deal to an all-in-one box set....

Universal is slowly backing off from supporting dud. That way there won't be as much angst as when Paramount just yanked themselves out of the BD world.

You can buy all 3 as stand alone, and as I said, Amazon has a bundle of them together for a box set price, you just don't get the box to put them in. But you will get the same content as the box set since the extras in the DVD version are already on the HD-DVD stand alone titles.
However this makes me think that maybe if they were to adopt Blu as well, they would have room here to release the box set on both formats together.... but that is a big IF.

veddy eenteresssting....

Only downside I can see is that Universal will be able to point to an unambiguous single-unit sales number, as opposed to what happened with Spidey3/trilogy. And they'll spend less money.

Then again, the

Well, that's just kinda lame, ain't it?
