South Korea As Tears Go By & Days of Being Wild (Korean Versions)

Wong Kar Wai's first two films were released in some very beautiful editions in Korea last month – has anyone bought them? I'm mostly interested in knowing if the subtitles on Days of Being Wild are much better than the HK version.

I'd like to know if the subtitles are better too. No idea...

The ones on the HK edition were incomprehensible.

I've ordered them and will compare them to their HK counterparts as soon as I get them!

Yes, let us know! I'm thinking about importing when I have more money, but I would like to know how it rates against the HK editions.

Received the discs today. Subtitles are identical to the Blurays from Hongkong by Mega Star. Also, image quality seems completely identical, probably only encoding differences, if at all. Both discs are BD-25.

I've never watched the Mega Star Blu-rays for either movie. Are the subtitles really that bad? How is the image quality?

You'll find reviews of the Mega Star Blurays on this website, so just take a look at these. In general, As Tears Go By is very soft whereas Days Of Being Wild is very grainy and beautiful with its green tinge.

In my opinion, the subtitles aren't bad at all and everything is perfectly understandable. It's certainly not like it used to be when the first DVDs were released, when you could find spelling and grammatical errors everywhere. But English is not my first language, so I can't guarantee that the subtitles will be satisfactory for native-speakers.
Maybe someone else could give us their take on the quality of the current subtitles.

Thank you for the info! The screenshots look good and the reviewer gave each film a 4.0 in terms of picture quality. There was mention of poor subtitles for Days of Being Wild but evidently nothing too egregious for As Tears Go By.

Hopefully we can get other opinions on the subtitles as well.

If the English subtitles are the same as indicated, it means the subs for As Tears Go By are pretty good throughout (only one or two minor errors) and almost incomprehensible for Days of Being Wild.

Okay, that's about on par with the other reactions I've seen on this forum.

I'm surprised Kino hasn't already.

Speaking of which, anyone know if Kino's subtitles are better than Mega Star's? I watched both flicks on Netflix Instant but I don't know which translation they used.

I watched some more scenes from Days Of Being Wild on Blu and you guys are right, the subtitles are atrocious at times! I didn't remember them being that bad... The sample scenes I used to compare the subtitles on both the KR and HK releases were okay, maybe I should have watched a bit more

Thanks for comparing these for us! Is the Guide book in Korean only?
