Japan Scandalo (Franco Nero)

As part of a series of Blu-ray and DVD releases, Kadokawa will bring Salvatore Samperi's Scandalo (Scandal) (1976), starring Franco Nero and Laura Gastoni, to DVD in Japan on October 10th, 2014.

Aside from a now-OOP release by King Records in Japan, and a now-OOP Italian release, the film does not appear to have been released on DVD anywhere else in the world. The King Records DVD seems to be uncensored, so hopefully, censoring should not affect this forthcoming Kadokawa release.

In the United States, the film was titled Submission, which is how it was released on VHS. Presumably, this edition has English audio, as opposed to being a subtitled release. There is a very helpful website listing here at VHS Collector, which has a super-sized cover of the US VHS, as well as as related material on the film's original US release.

Note: IMDb has some strange information for this film, including listing the original language as English, which is unlikely, given that this was an Italian production with European actors, and listing the runtime as 116 minutes.

The Italian DVD is listed as running 102 minutes at PAL speed. The US Submission VHS is rated R (MPAA) and claims it runs 110 minutes, while the Japanese releases appear to run 107 minutes, all in NTSC (Film) speed.

Press information linked at VHS Collector reveals that the film probably ran 107 minutes in its US release.

My inclination is that the film proper runs 106-107 minutes depending on logos, and this would explain the DVD run times. It's also entirely possible that the VHS contains an alternate cut of the film.
