Default Raintree County (1957) Warner Archive Blu-ray 2015?

On the Facebook page for Warner Bros. to release 'Raintree County' on Blu-ray has posted that a friend has told them Warner Archive is restoring and planning a Blu-ray release next year! Hopefully this is true. Wonderful movie with some great Hollywood Legends.

From the Facebook page:

Could it be true? In case you missed it, my friend John Fry just revealed that "Raintree County" is currently being restored and will be released via the Warner Archive on Blu-ray next year!

The guy that has the facebook page has talked with the guy that said this and says:

I really can't say anything more at this time, except that I have every reason to believe that this is true.

Also that guy John Fry, when asked where did this rumour come from he says at facebook:

Not a ramour, a fact.

Yes I realise it's too good to be true, but maybe just maybe....

At the moment, all we have is a hearsay from a guy who is not affiliated with the WB and on the top of that - he is reluctant to reveal his sources. Musicguy is right...this belongs in the wishlist.

Ok..
But the thing I meant is, the guy did reveal his sources to the facebook page owner only, and after that the page owner said that it is indeed a legitimate source but he can't say anything further.
That means, as i see it, that it's not just a rumour spread by an obsessed fan or something, but a fact from a WB source maybe..

The "guy" with the Facebook page is me, lol. The collector is a friend of mine who I've been in touch with since starting my Raintree County page trying to gather support for this film to finally be released on Blu-ray. Out of respect for him I only feel comfortable revealing what he's posted publicly on my page, but I can tell you that this is happening. 2015 can't come soon enough for me!

so long as they do it properly in the original 2:76 aspect ratio, I'm there. It's my goal to get all of the ultra panavision films released properly in their OAR's. Now that Twilight Time released Khartoum correctly, all we need is Raintree County, and the Hallelujah Trail..then we should have just about all of them. The only remaining ones are the Bronston titles..but I don't see Miramax ever releasing those in the proper 2:76 ratio.

I couldn't be more thrilled! There was no movement on this project for years and I was really starting to lose hope, especially knowing that it would be an expensive restoration. I couldn't be more thrilled. I watched the film on TCM this past weekend, and there is so much potential for this film to look breathtaking. Bring on 2015!

Great news that it is purportedly coming from someone. I do have to say it is a little disheartening to hear that it has been relegated to the Archive line. I know it isn't as well known as, say, Giant to the average classic movie fan, but it is surprising to me nonetheless.

The question now is, will it be the roadshow version or not?
Even if it isn't, I won't mind because I have never seen it anyway..
But the only thing i could miss will be the title cards and music with "overture", "entr'acte" etc., which give a film a "glamorous" character!
And that the complete music score won't be there, due to the edits..

Just listening to the soundtrack, and i get goosebumps in the idea that I might see this on Bluray someday soon...

Why it is disheartening?
From what i read in reviews of Warner Archive Blurays, they don't seem inferior from regular Warner Blurays.

I remember Warner saying this would cost a lot to restore. If so, then this will likely be a release they'd be taking a loss on. That's the main reason I can see this becoming a wide release. That gives them more outlets to try to recoup the money involved here.

Maybe it's not a full blown restoration a la Ben-Hur or something, but just a decent restoration?

The quality of the Warner Archive titles that have been released on Blu-ray thus far have been of such high quality that I'm not too concerned. I'm just thrilled it's finally coming to Blu-ray. It didn't even get a DVD release in R1.

This is what Warner said a while back:
Quote:
"RAINTREE COUNTY requires a very complicated and expensive restoration to give it a proper presentation. Warner Home Video is aware of the interest and it is under active consideration. The film was shot in 65mm, and the negative and safety separations were both cut to a shorter length for general release. 35mm prints (now faded) exist with the cut footage, but putting them together for a proper Blu-ray level presentation is an expensive proposition. Hopefully this will come to pass in the future."

I haven't heard, but I hope we get the full roadshow version. I guess it depends on budget.

Robert A. Harris wrote this on HTF this week:

Quote:
The film is a huge cost vs. sales problem. WB should at least be able to break even.
