This seems like a silly tie in with the blu ray. The ape looks like the ones from the original 70's movies. The apes look nothing like this in the current movies.

The makers of the new movies say that eventually it all leads to "the world of the 1968 film." So this figure gets the kids not only ready for what the new films may eventually evolve into, but it also gets the kids to look at the old movies, which Fox very much wants. As far as Fox is concerned, it's all good and they want new fans to the franchise to be into everything, old and new.
