Default How is the Panasonic DMP BD30K for DTS HD?

I'm planning on getting the Panasonic DMP BD30K very soon. Currently I own the Sony 300 BD player, but it does not process DTS HD. I own the Onkyo 805 so it will process DTS HD when I get the Panasonic. My question is this:

With the Panasonic BD player, is there going to be a noticable difference when listening to true DTS HD sound? Minute difference or very noticable.

Thank you everyone.

Post My take

You should check the main threads about the Panasonic DMP BD30K, but I think this topic is general enough to discuss for everyone who will be going to a setup that can fully decode DTS-HD MA.

On the Fox movies that use it, everything I've heard so far puts it up there with LPCM and Dolby TrueHD.

It is phenomenal on these titles:
  • Fantastic Four:Silver Surfer
  • Mr. Brooks
  • Live Free or Die Hard

I notice the biggest improvement over the DTS core in the music, but the surround effects also sound a bit fuller and smoother.

On other titles that are not as demanding, the DTS core v. DTS-HD MA difference is much more subtle. (i.e. the Prison Break Season 1, which I've watched all of now).

I also have a PS3. If the PS3 ever gets DTS-HD MA decoding it will probably only pass it as PCM through HDMI to the receiver. Even if that occurs, it is preferable to do the audio decoding and processing in the receiver - not the player.

Thanks Jim. Much appreciated. One more question: Is TrueHD the same thing as PCM?

I to upgraded from the 300 to the panny bd 30 and a big fat YES!!! Noticble difference made me go back and retry all my blu rays I own. Now I look when one comes out to see what audio it has on it when before didn't care. I have the onkyo 605 so you are in for a treat! Louder ,clearer, and just overall impressive.

Man, I'm psyched now! Thank you! I found this review from a thread on this site. Very good review, but in the sound difference dept between the Sony 300 with no DTS HD and the Panasonic player... you answered my question. Thank you again!
