Default Darker Than Black Season 1 coming to Blu-ray

Creating it's own thread for this:

Darker Than Black season 1 is getting a Blu-ray here in the U.S. from Funimation!

http://www.funimation.com/blog/2015/...ng-to-blu-ray/

This is not retailer exclusive. It is limited to 5000 units.

Edit: Preorder is up at Rightstuf:

Great news. Didn't care much for DTB2 (the OVA was great though), but I really enjoyed the first one.

Too much for me to upgrade. Wanted it on BD but will live with the DVD. Saving my money for stuff like GITS BDs.

Yeah tell me about it. You don't even want to see my purchase spread sheet I have. I hate looking at it every time I add something to it.

Sincerely annoyed by the lack of a regular edition but I assume it was a stipulation for licencing on Blu-ray.

Ditto, love the fact that they are having a Funi sale and it counted.

Also most of my LE's are down to $37.79 now.

I spreadsheet all my anime purchases as well, and it includes every anime I've gotten since I started buying 2 years ago... I spent a few hundred over 10 Grand last year and well over a Grand for this year so far - but this year will be nothing like last year - I promise!

And, I'll need to add another $53.99 to my spreadsheet tonight, lol...

I've never seen this but have wanted to because Yoko Kanno does the music. Great that Season 1 is finally arriving on Blu-ray. I thought it might have just stayed with the season two release. Backwards... but it works out.

That is likely what is going on, Funimation and others are getting Blu-ray licenses from the Japanese owners only if they charge a certain price for the set.

I liked season one far more than season two.

While I can share the sentiment of people who would prefer regular editions, if this is what's going on behind the scenes and they can only do Premium version, so long as they stay in this price range, I'm happy. I always go for the LE, anyways, so it won't affect me too much.

I'm happy to just get it as all we had was the DVD. At least it only is $53 which isn't bad at all. Thank goodness for GA, saved me $6 right there. Also it really cut into the other LE's I had as well.

And I agree with the general consensus on this one. Season 1 is much better then Season 2.

I personally would rather have a soundtrack included driving up the price than fancy packaging.

The problem is that the OVA included with Season 2 is far more connected to Season 1 in tone and spirit. It is set between the events of those seasons but feels like a part of Season 1 much more.

ovas are great think the problem with season 2 is its 14 episodes shorter than season 1. Probably had a lot of ideas, but had to fit it in 12 episodes
[Show spoiler] the magician to me was an interesting character but you only see him in the beginning when he dies and all of a sudden in the end
