United Kingdom [REC] 4: Apocalypse - March 02, 2015

Synopsis:
[Show spoiler]
Quote:
The young reporter Ángela is rescued from the building and taken to an oil tanker to be examined. However, it is unbeknown to the soldiers that she carries the seed of the mysterious demonic virus.

Does anyone know whether or not this is region locked? I'm thinking about importing it.

Most likely region B locked, since the previous ones were as well.
The making of is much shorter that the previous ones as well, only 30 minutes long this time.

Nah, I haven't even watched REC4, but if it's anywhere near as bad as REC3 was, then I have no desire to either.

Shame really, since REC1 was awesome and REC2 was pretty good.

Will buy this once it drops in price. REC1 and 2 were awesome. 3 was really dissapointing.

I believe the directors of the first two movies tackled 3 and 4 apart. So one of them did Rec 3 and the other did Rec 4. I've heard Rec 4 is a return to the more serious tone of the first two.

I saw [REC] 4: Apocalypse when it came out on VOD here in the states back in January. I would give it a 7/10. I actually watched it in a marathon with [REC] and [REC] 2 (I skipped 3 after reading it had nothing to do with the first two other than it was the same virus). I think it is hard to compare 4 to 1 and 2 since the found-footage point-of-view is dropped, but I do think it is a very good zombie film that thankfully keeps the setting in tightly-closed spaces just like the first two. There is more edge-of-your-seat action here though (and arguably more blood also), and it wastes no time in setting up the situation and the characters. There is a small twist towards the end that some might guess halfway through the film (or it will at least keep you guessing throughout). Angela is different in this film as she becomes less damsel-in-distress (if you have seen the second one you will understand partially why), unlike her character in the first one. Overall I really liked it and I actually bought the German version since I did not want to wait to own it months later.

I watched Rec 3 fairly recently. I personally wouldn't describe it as 'bad' but it was a pretty significant step-down in quality as it was just another incredibly generic horror film, whereas the first two entries are genuinely pretty amazing imo. I think Rec 4 will also be another disappointingly generic sequel so I'll just be sticking with Rec 1 & 2 (which are masterpieces of tension and shocks).

So the German BD plays on your American player?

No it's region B locked unfortunately (I have a region free player). It doesn't have English subs either, is cause I understand Spanish pretty well. The subs aren't forced (at least in the player I used).

I thought this as even worse than REC3. It is like a scaled down version of the first two films, set on a boat, with uninteresting characters and it totally drops the mythology set up by the first two films.

Agreed. The first 2 were excellent and the mythology really interesting, it defies belief that they couldn't think of a better ending for the series.

I loved 1-2, 3 was not very good but 4 was a step up again so I really enjoy the series overall. They are all certainly better than hollywoods zombies resident evil films. Hope a 5 will arrive since 4 should make more money than part 3

But we need a really good boxset with 1-4 now. Spain and Japan made very good versions of the series so far.

I read that the Spanish version has audio in 7.1 DTS-HD MA and also has English subs so I ordered it even though I already have it

Does it have 7.1? Amazon.es has it listed as 5.1, but a 7.1 mix would be amazing! Actually quite enjoyed this one, better than Genesis, but still second tier to the first two films.

Yeah. The site here,

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/REC-4...lu-ray/120336/

as well as this Spanish site (which does blu ray, as well as HD AV equipment reviews)

http://www.altadefinicionhd.com/anal...-4-apocalipsis

lists it as having a 7.1 DTS-HD MA in Spanish as well as English subs. Going by that site it seems it sounds great also. Also Amazon hardly ever gets the specs of movies right for some reason. Like I said, I ordered it (it's on its way already); if you want confirmation I could reply here again to confirm both. I imagine it'll get here in no more than 3 weeks
