Default Rudolph in HD - Colors Galore

Anyone in the U.S. catch Rudolph the other night in HD? It was like watching a different movie (almost). I couldn't believe how vibrant the colors were and what great PQ. All the versions I'd seen before must have been from some really old, crappy master, because I know I've never seen half those colors before in this show. And anyone notice that a lot of the "human" hands were really quite dirty and disgusting? But at least I know, except for the lack of hand-washing, that this'll be worth picking up on blu-ray next Christmas!! (Like how I brought this weird, awkward moment back into a blu-ray discussion?)

I watched it, I never really noticed how bad the stop motion puppets were. I did notice you could barely make out some super thin strings at the end when the Santa's sleigh was flying.

Did ya notice the poor bird at the end? It's a misfit toy because it swims instead of flies. So what do they do? They drop him like dead weight off the sleigh with no umbrella. The thing was roadkill (or sleighkill).

Feel your pain, dude...
Had it all set on my calendar, got distracted in a game, and only read about it this morning.
Now, nothing but the animated specials, another Shrek-special broadcast, and the one NBC "It's a Wonderful Life" HD broadcast before the last week to go.

(But at least I managed to catch the NBC Radio City Spectacular in wide-HDTV...And that by accident.)

So I was excited to watch White Christmas in HD on TV last night. What a disappointment. The PQ was not very good and they showed it in pan-n-scan (instead of VISTAVISION). Sure hope they do a good remaster before it goes blu, very disappointed by how it looked.

We're lucky they're showing them at ALL--
Hour-long program slots (and not enough half-hour sitcoms to pre-empt) were what killed off the Holiday Special, long before ABC Family bought up all the Rankin-Basses...
Now, on the free networks, it's Rudolph, an hour-stretched Charlie, the one annual corportely-owned airing of IAWL*, and head for New Years.

(* - Yes, when they bought up the "Wonderful Life" rights, and only restricted showings to once a year on NBC, it sent shockwaves through the world of comedy:
No longer could comics do old reliable "Five hundred airings of IAWL" jokes anymore, since there was no more public-domain material to take from, let alone the gag had become obsolete...
One recent Xmas-episode sitcom had its couple clearly implied to be "sitting around watching IAWL for the hundredth time", but the updated script references and TV sound-effects had to be changed to the Alastair Sim "Christmas Carol". Kinda loses something in the translation.)

I only watched a little bit of that on yesterday and I did not think it really looked much different than it normally does.

I caught that one as well and it was pretty good.
