Default Is CompUSA going out of business?

Hey guys, I just wanted to know if its true that CompUSA will be out of business by beginning of 2008? My friend told me about it, but I initially did not believe. However, I searched news articles on the web and they all say that CompUSA is closing its doors for the last time, etc.

I am just pissed off b/c I just had a custom built PC made by them with their warranties and I know it won't be honored if they go out of business.

Can someone verify if this is true that they are going out of business?

Thanks.

Yes they are. They deserve it too. That is what you get when you sell your products at higher prices than everyone else.

Eh, I'll throw 'em half a bone here. If you got the right salesperson you could get them to play ball.

And I used to see more selection on the enthusiast level with some products than I'd see at Best Buy or some of the other places.

In any event, I view this as bad news simply because this retail scene needs more competition not less.

The only one near me closed about six months ago. They were always pretty busy.

While their prices for the most part did suck, it was nice having a on hand store were if i needed a hard drive or other various computer parts, 9 times out of ten they would carry it. Without them around, now there are no stores around, best buy and cc have a limited selection and they are just as over priced, sad to see compusa go actually.

Good luck actually finding a deal. When the closed a couple around here it took 3 months of 'going out of business' markdowns to finally get merchandise lower than what you can find online or even at Best Buy. By then, everything is gone.

What's worse, they actually increased the price on some products then applied the discount.

When they went out by me I got some pretty good deals on blu-rays you have to check the store every couple of days if you have time because the markdowns happen at various times.

They have been a downward spiral for the past ten years or so, I worked there back then, and when I left they were just starting to lay people off. My last week there, they axed the entire small business department one morning.
Plus, as others have pointed out, their prices suck, and I really never saw any upside to shopping there, you would think there techs knew a lot, but it was rare to have one that did.

Sad end to the Computer City & CompUSA saga.

Good idea, and since I used to work there I know exactly what not to do.

It's been about 9 years, right around the time they started the switch from a computer only store to a consumer electronic mix like Best Buy only smaller selection and more expensive. I did build up an impressive DVD library in 98-99 when I could snatch up their lossleaders before the store opened. Tons of DVDs for $6.

Huh, that's interesting. I honestly didn't even know CompUSA was still in operation, and I guess that's probably do to them shutting down their businesses (pre-announcement).
