Digital Movies with Film Transfers (II)

I previously posted this in the wrong section and could not move it. I wonder how people feel about this topic. When a movie is created in a digital realm, and all home video releases use a 35mm film print for the transfer, instead of transferring digitally. I see this mostly applies to computer-animated films, such as Antz, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, etc.

It's not a deal breaker for me, but if there is a good chance the files for the film still exists (South Park), then it seems kind of like a missed opportunity. I bring up South Park because the makers of the show have the computer data at their disposal, as shown by the recent re-rendering of almost every episode from Seasons 1-12. I realize the rights between the show and the movie are different, but it still confuses me.

What do you think about this topic, and are there any other films that have similar issues? Does it affect the picture quality for you?
