Default Throw out your PS2 Aready!!!

I constantly read about people concerned about backwards compatability with the 80 gig or 40 gig PS3 - WHY THE HELL DOES ANYONE CARE?

The day I got my PS3, I gave my PS2 and 30 games to a co-worker for FREE and have never looked back.

It's the new generation - time to move on folks, time to move on.

My 9 year old son uses my old one in his room. Great system for him!

I'm under the same mentality. However, there are people just as crazy about games as we are about movies. My friend sold his Xbox the day he bought his Xbox 360 because the 360 had backwards compadibility. After he realized how crappy their emulation system was he went to gamestop and bought a used Xbox. He replays old games constantly and has a huge collection.

Backwards compadibilty doesnt matter to me or you or even most people. And some people feel the same way about classic games as we do about classic movies.

good games does not necessarily have good graphic.
I loved to play games based on how enjoyable it is. I still play the likes of Final Fantasy I, VII, etc today.

While my favourite games are all in PS2 (Kingdom Hearts). I can't fully migrate to a PS3 without a backward compatibility. Fortunately, both my PS3 still have b/c

This guy's right. It's not like those games are at all fun anymore. Why, I remember the first time I ever played Super Rub'a'dub, thinking to myself "why did I ever waste all that time yanking minotaurs' heads off on God Of War II?"

Well, to play devil's advocate (as I'm so want to do anytime you say anything)... that awesomely glorious game came out way before the PS3 came out. So it was released, enjoyed, and now a new system is out to enjoy. How many great PS2 games have come along since the PS3 was released? I don't know of any.

Now... if you think you might play those games then obviously either get a backwards compatible machine, or keep the PS2 around. But usually, even the people shouting the loudest for backwards compatibility rarely go back to the old games. Rarely. So... I basically agree with the original post... to an extent.

Default no way

I have a huge collection of games/systems myself. Although the day Sony said they were pulling the bc I went out and picked up a 60GB ps3. I have a lot of ps2 games I haven't finished yet. Heck I still have games on my jaguar (amongst other systems) I haven't finished yet.

If you don't understand why people want access to the massive PS1 and PS2 library you are not very smart.. Maybe I am misunderstanding.. PS3 is just new games they are not automatically better.

I can understand selling the PS2 system IF the PS3 plays the PS1/2 games you enjoy. I am still catching up on some PS2 games I had not gotten around to playing. I even recently played two PS1 games on my PS3. Those two games are in my top 10 games of all time and will play them again at some point.. maybe on a PS4

A really good game is when you connect with it.. and often in this case you will play it again down the road when a new system is out.

I did it the opposite way - the only way I could convince the wife to let me get a PS3 was that I had a PS2 that I could sell if I bought a b/c PS3. I sold it on eBay for $120 (!) and kept my games, and bought a 20 GB PS3 off eBay with 4 PS3 games. Sold those, and basically got the PS3 for free. That was a great move (last April timeframe).

Well actually, it came out several months AFTER the release of the PS3.

I think the underlying problem is that people who didn't care as much about b/c as I did (up until the release of the 40 gig) paid a premium for 20 extra gigs of HD space over what I paid. And of course, that's relatively cheap to upgrade on your own. So it's arguable that the 60 gig is a better machine than the 80, since you could always take that 100 bucks and buy a HUGE hard drive, but you can't just slap in a new chipset to get b/c.
